My guy, it was the final of a national championship and an Olympics qualifier. It's literally the absolute best the USA has to offer right now.
The best guys are in the 5k because the 10k world standard is so insane. Drew is still about 40 seconds away from qualifying for the Olympic 10k, and 40 seconds is HUGE in the 10k.
True, but what do you think that heat was worth? Definitely slowed down the field considerably. With his 13:08 PR, my guess is Hunter is in 27:15 shape on a perfect day.
It was dumb to even race the 10k because he is so far off the standard. He should have stayed fresh for the 5k where he's closer.
His mom doesn't understand the world ranking system.
He isn't close in the 5000m. He probably could pull in good money on the roads but that contract he signed several years ago depending on how many years is probably about to expire
By isn't close I mean his PR is 1308 Fisher 1246 Woody 1251 Teare 1254. His best chance going forward in track is the 10000m. Woody is 31. The future for the next 3 or 4 years in the 10000m is still Fisher, Nico, we will see how Woody does in next 2 or 3 years, Drew Hunter up side he should keep improving
4:21-4:27-4:32-4:34-4:38-4:22-:58 going to the well. (Remember- you’re supposed to finish that way- that’s literally what you train to do.)
Minor surges in a 28:00 duration race is part of racing. It’s not like he went out in 4:10, or had to start dropping 62s mid race to maintain contact. It was a very steady pace throughout. If anything, those 71 second laps helped his performance.
Stop being obtuse.
My guy, if you don’t understand racing that’s fine. Just stop making a fool of yourself on a running website 😂

Might even be a little better, considering the three guys he hung with till the last lap.

Give a listen to his interview on the citius “live from Eugene” podcast today. Says his contract is up at the end if this year. Mentioned he was thinking about leaving the sport etc. insightful discussion and he’s very open and transparent. Seems like he’s mentally turning a corner
will be interesting to see if adidas resigns him. If they do I imagine it’ll be Greatly reduced vs now
Guy ran his heart out. Looked like a mess doing it too.
It’s really not good that everyone is saying “he ran the race of his life,” while running an even-paced 27:53. It’s 1:20 slower than Grant’s PR, and 1:00 slower than Nico’s.
Wish Grant was wearing a heart monitor. Good tune up for the 5K I guess.
Even paced? The splits are free to see on results.usatf.org.
Caught my eye with that 27.38 in March, I'm sure he'll get faster
Why was it dumb for him to race the 10k?? He was that close to third and had a better shot at it then the 1500
Because even if he finished in the top 3 he did not have the qualifying standard of 27:00 needed to make the team and he made no effort to ensuring the necessary pace to get under 27.
He tries hard and gets the most out of his talent, but he's just not good enough. That's the sum of it. He's not a top-tier guy, but still hangs in there and competes.
This wasn't as impressive as you all think. He didn't beat anyone good, you are just celebrating the fact that he finished CLOSE TO Nico young who is 5 years younger than him. Nico is clearly also not in 12:57 and sub 27 fitness right now. Nico obviously peaked for the Ten to hit the standard and he's running on fumes now (sub 13 Nico would have destroyed Wolfe).
Here's who Drew Hunter beat:
Casey Clinger coming off of a massive injury
Connor Mantz who is training exclusively for the marathon and who also ran like an idiot.
Sam Chelanga who is 39 years old coming back from retirement.
Andrew Colley who is 33
Ryan Ford who nobody ever heard of before
Paul Chelimo who is out of shape and also ran like a moron.
Aside from the top 3 this was an extremely weak 10k field.
LOL. I'm sure your 4th place 10K finish at the Olympic Trials behind three sub 27 10K guys (now 2 national champs and the NCAA record holder) and ahead of two Olympians is much more impressive than Hunter's. Give us a link to the video of your race.
Honestly hell of a performance, but dude learn how to kick. You’re telling me he couldn’t crush that pansy from Utah? Terrible. Crush those fools and reap the rewards.

What Woody does in the next 2 or 3 years will be on the roads.
He stated in a recent interview this is his last year on the track.
Will close out his running career as a marathoner.
So, very definitely a place on US 10k teams for Drew so long as he continues to stay healthy and gets his WA rankings up there.
However, if Abdi Nur moves up to the 10k, his spot will be in question.
