FWIW, I suspect Valby will up her mileage as a pro, while still doing some cross training. She was just doing what she had to do to make it through the college seasons. She’ll have more support around her going forward, to figure it all out.
Valby’s regimen seems like a slightly different type system than this Painter/Meadows training it seems. The latter does 4 quality run days and 2 very easy ones. That’s 6 days to hit 35 mpw so these are quality not quantity. Biking/Swimming supplement with easy run effort with low impact.
Whereas it sounds like Valby does 30-35 mpw in her 3 days of running and these are volume-heavy days (long run, lengthy workouts). She uses the elliptical to both mimic easy runs but also gets after it with hard aerobic efforts on it.
