There is no rule against singing while running. If Joe sang loudly while running 10:00 pace he could add 20 bpm to his heart rate. I'll leave the song suggestions to others.
You need to give Vinny 6:00/mi for there to be even a hint of doubt in the outcome.
Give yourself 9:00/mi to make it “fair”, I don’t think it will ultimately make much difference.
Again, if the debate was 6:00/mi vs 10:00/mi (or 9:00/mi, doesn't matter) then I would have chosen 6:00/mi and there wouldn't be a bet to begin. The reason I took this bet at all is because there is, as you say, no doubt in the outcome.
But hey, Vinny offered me free money so I took it!
Fairly sure 10min is going to win this, but an awesome concept anyway.
Has there been any consideration if neither of you finish? Training 15miles and 3 miles a week does suggest both dnf'ing is a chance. In that case is the bet a push, or does the person who made it further win?

Its the first week of training, why would you assume that we're going to stay at 15 miles and 3 miles a week?
As far as DNFing we hadn't talked about that yet. At any point either of us can forfeit, in which case the other person is the winner of the bet. If we both DNF at the marathon I think the person who made it further should win but I'll consult the council.

Obviously you will build significantly, especially on the 15, where youre more limited by your boredom than your body @10min/mile. But then sometimes things just happen when training/racing marathons, and training at the extremes could throw up anything.
I was aiming for 30 miles this week, but I underestimated how difficult it would be to stay on track with my job starting up. I also logged 1 pace violation after running 9:45 on a mostly downhill mile. That said, I did hit my first run of 6 miles / 1 hour yesterday!

One violation for Vinny this week after the WU/CD debacle. Huge milestone running his first full mile at sub 5:00/mi pace!

Im loving this thread to be honest.
Yes, boredom is absolutely my greatest enemy. If one of us forfeits the challenge before we reach the marathon, it will likely be me - purely due to hating my life.

Is trail running allowed? You might find that less boring plus the pace is harder on a trail than a road
Alright alright - before anyone says it, I know. I'm not running enough. I was aiming for 30-35 this week but missed a day due to some car problems that had to be taken care of. I also opted to start running on the treadmill, since it takes the guesswork out of hitting paces, protects me from violations, and - most importantly - I can watch movies so I don't go insane. I'm taking watchlist recommendations.

And you thought I was doing bad. Checked in on Vinny after looking at his Strava and seeing exactly zero runs since June 22. Sure enough, he's been on an island in Canada for the last week.

Sort of, just nothing super hilly. Vinny was against trail running being allowed but I don't think we ever actually banned it.

Try trail running then! I’d do that over the treadmill because a 10:00 pace on a treadmill is easier than outside. Treadmill running would probably be a good option for Vinny OTOH

this is the most poorly executed "idea" in the history of letsrun. just delete the thread
