Some states are July. Some are August. Some are Setember. CA is 9/1 so she could have started a year earlier but she is only days older than the date. And in some states, she wouldn't have been permitted to start a year earlier. She will have college teammates from some of those other states and she will have foreign teammates who may be 21 freshmen year. Several freshmen won distance intheNCAA this year and they are way older than 19.
Exactly, every state is different. If CA is September 1, then that backs up my claim of how Sadie's parents likely held her back or delayed her by one year to avoid her being the youngest among her grade, which is 100% understandable.
I'd do the same with my kid too. I was the youngest in my grade in HS, being born even after 9/1 and I hated it. I would've much rather graduated with the following class and have been 18 for a majority of the year.
A buddy of mine I graduated with started late for the exact same reason. He graduated HS at 18, turned 19 a month later in July. He was never held back, his parents just "kindergarten redshirted" him because they didn't want him to be super young for his grade. Totally valid
Entering college at 19 straight up means you were held back. That’s extremely rare and a grade behind on school. That’s way old
Your premise let alone entire post is just false. Just because you are a bit older than others doesn't automatically mean you were held back, nor does it mean you are a grade behind. 19 as a freshman in college is a normal age.
Sadie should be entering college this fall at her age.
Sadie Englehardt's birthday according to World Athletics is August 21, 2006. She is currently 17 for 2-1/2 more months. She will graduate at age 18 like almost all seniors.
I hope somebody hasn't found a new minor to target with malicious lies.

It can be done , but because your parents hold you back. Thats facts. It’s ok for parents to make the decision, but far from normal.

No. Some states have a cutoff of July for kindergarten. If born in August, you can't start until when turning 6. Some colleges start in Setember so there will be kids starting college at 19 who were not permitted to start kindergarten any earlier.
And be 19 entering college. Thats old and not normal. Turning 18 entering college in August is normal. Sadie is a year behind in school
Actually, the opposite is true. If you are turning 18 entering college, you are YOUNG, which is not normal. Better be a senior in HS if you're that age

It all comes down to when your birthday is. For me, the earliest could be July 1st, with the latest being June 30th. Meaning that, for C/O 2024 for example, the kids born July 1 would be the oldest, while June 30th kids being the youngest.
Once it becomes July 1st again, the cycle repeats for the following class
In the huge public school system of the huge city I live in, the entire current senior cohort was born in 2006. These are the rules.
Unless you were left back, or in private school, if you were born any time in 2006, you are a legitimate senior. Some of these kids will still be 17 for their first semester of college.

It's perfectly normal and understandable. You are incorrect, please accept it.
It’s not normal. Sadie is a year older to then her class and even older then kids entering college this fall. She was held back. Who cares why, but she was. The only record it effects is her 8th grade record should be void
Stanford starts class 9/25. So there will be about 10% of incoming California kids at age 19 who were not permitted to start kindergarten earlier than they did.

I agree her 8th record should be void. And in California she was definitely held back. Most Likely by her parents.

Connecticut might be the only state where this is true.
