Sahlman looked a bit out of his depth tactically there, but he’s still young and will be back. Is it crazy to have waskom over Hobbs at the trials at this point? Very impressive
Sahlman just didn't have it at the end, it's hard to imagine that he could have made a tactical choice that would have helped him much. He obviously gassed hard. As far as Waskom vs. Kessler, I think it just depends on the race. Apart from Nuguse, I don't think anyone is a lock, and Waskom is a total gamer.
The fact people keep of sleeping on Hocker is crazy, he has the endurance to run a 3:48 in May and he of course has his ridiculous kick which is second only to Beamish right now.
Salhman needs to be in more races like this. you don't learn tactics overnight. hes also still so young, by the time he's a senior he wont run out of gas like that.
I notice he's competing at Portland Trackfest this weekend.
We will be going live right when the meet ends to break it down for you on your favorite socia media platform. If you can't catch it live, join the SC.

Sahlman used too much energy moving in and out. Contrast that with Cook who just stayed on the rail, stayed relaxed and made no sudden or herky'jerky moves and moved when it was time to go at the end. I think Cook will continue to develop nicely after Oregon. He has a fluid, relaxed running style and has good 800 speed. In addition, he gained strength during a decent XC campaign.
Lots of good points. I wonder if the 1500 heats will be more tactical and then the favorites take it out hard in the final? Time will tell. Nice steeple by Stokes.

I think Sahlman chose a reasonable tactic that gave him every chance to win, he just didn’t quite have enough. No real shame in finishing 4th in such a deep field, beating guys like Essayi and Green.
Waskom is now something of a ? going into the Trials. Based on last summer and tonight’s race you’d think he’s among the favorites, while based on everything in between you’d think he was a long shot to make the final.
Oh certainly no shame in Colin’s race. I’m probably being a bit nitpicky as i was hoping to see him compete for the win.

Congrats to Jerry for having another athlete being outkicked when it matters. He will probably tell Cook time for the 5k. When in doubt move on up until my training makes you unable to run by 29. Jerry’s game plan.
Lol he beat all but one in the field so dry those tears crybaby!
I think Sahlman is a generational talent and his time will come, like Young. Next year will be fast as well with E. Cook who I believe is a Jr., Washington, and Sahlman. I think Reinhardt Harrison has show some promise as well. I certainly don’t want to judge a NCAA middle distance runner, but does Sahlman’s arm carriage seem odd and inefficient when he runs.
GREAT job by Jerry for having possibly the best prepared athlete in the race and a near national champ
Jerry has more haters here than for any other coach but he's done a nice job in developing Cook. The haters will say Cook.was already a decent runner when Jerry arrived but Jerry has brought out his racing abilities. Cook hasn't run fast times yet, but those will come.
That's right! He's showing great development.. committed himself to the Jerry plan and ran his beat race to date. Came down to a lean!
I mean...He was. Remember this was literally a final 600m race. Guys at the front like Sahlman slowed it down. Imagine if Sahlman went 58-58-57, who would hang with that? And what would the final 300 be?
