We prefer to have 1 thread per subject matter and have merged three threads into 1. The 2nd thread was entitled, "Why does Jakob talk so much trash?" The third thread was titled, "New Jakob Interview: Olympics should be “a walk in the park”, calls some competitors “a**holes and idiots”:
Starting at 10:00 he says defending his Olympic title should be a walk in the park if he doesn’t get sick or injured, and appears to take a shot at certain competitors again. Thoughts?
My two takes on this:
1) His training could be going very well. He wouldn’t be talking like this if he didn’t think he had a pretty good chance of winning. That being said he did give himself an out, with the injury or sickness comment and he can easily fall back on his preseason injury if Kerr out kicks him again.
2) He’s going to try and win emphatically and control as much of the race as possible. I think this could actually play into Kerr or Nuguse’s hands if he does a lot of the leading to break them and they have the fitness to get around him with 200m to go.
Overall I think Jakob and Josh may be too focused on each other and another contender could steal it. I think if someone upsets them it would be either Nordås, Nuguse, Hocker if he’s finally reached sub 3:30 fitness, or Laros if he makes another big jump.
I like this scenario. There is more to that race than Jakob and Kerr. That's a problem track has- hyping two individuals and one of them doesn't make finals or really is sick or injured and can't run at all.
Although, I like Jakob, I like his arrogance because he's putting on a show and this could lead to some good coverage for NBC leading up to the race.

Track is not hyping 2 individuals. 2 individuals are hyping themselves, and since last summer one of them has been walking the talk.

The 1500 is extremely competitive. If Jakob doesn't string out the field he risks not even being on the podium. Kerr and others understand his desperation so they will absolutely let him pace. The worse that can happen in their case is they have more raw speed and will take their chances in a super tactical final 400. I cannot sew a scenario where Jakob sits on someone else.

lol@ "they will let him pace"
more people who don't understand the sport they are watching.
Let's just be honest here. No Olympic or world title is EVER a walk in the park, and anybody going in and genuinely thinking that is going to be in for a shock when they get there. I can only assume he is just saying this for the media, and doesn't really believe it, because if he goes in with that mentality he's going to be walking away with a minor medal at best. Just listen to El G's interviews about Athens. It took every ounce of willpower and strength that he had to win that final. I would say Bolt is about the only athlete I've seen who could make an Olympic final look like a walk in the park, and he was an absolute freak athlete, capable of inhuman feats. Jakob is good, but he is not Bolt.
I think Jakob's only shot at gold is to run it like El G did in 2004, sitting back and letting the field run whatever they want the first 700, then taking the lead and grinding it down with a constant acceleration to the finish. Unfortunately, I think his ego will take over and he will go to the front within the first 600. If he does that, even if he runs 3:27 he will lose. Nuguse and Kerr are too fit for him to get away with that. Nuguse almost got him at Pre even with a pacer in a 3:43 race, if Jakob is doing the work he won't hold him off again.

Not really, Kerr has since then: Lost to nuguse in a 3:30 race, duck Jakob and Nuguse in Eugene for a mile road race, get paced by fisher for 90% of a race to a time that is worse than what Jakob ran with 60% pacing, and won a slow indoor championship 3k against a weak field. Nothing comparable to what Jakob did post budapest.

He is obviously joking. He understands what it takes, and it’s obvious he has the willpower it takes to win. He won the 5000m a few days later against one of the best fields ever, broke the 2000m record, and ran 343 and 723 on back to back days and won both against someof the best fields ever. I would not doubt his willpower and focus.

Yes, post BUdapoest he did something totally different: he whined about an imaginary sickness, he won a meaningless mile race in Eugene falling short of a WR he was chasing, he ducked both Euro/World XC and World Indoors for whatever reason (theoretically an injury, but for a dude that fakes illnesses all the time we can't even trust it to be true) and while doing so he showboated all the time in dumb interviews like this one...totally different indeed.

Wow, we can already tell who the delusional, biased hater is here. Admit it, you hate the guy for what he says rather than what he objectively accomplishes.
