"All eyes are on the pole vault": Your cameras & broadcast decide where the goddamn eyes are. We didn't ask to watch Mondo miss his 3rd attempt and miss the entirety of the 5000m
Since this is sort of, ya know, your job, couldn’t you plan to get to the office before the meet starts, or watch the meet from home and then drive to the office? It would spare yourself and others the danger of you driving while watching a broadcast on your phone!
That's a hard way to run 12:55. Super hard. Go out on 12:45 pace - run a 65 in the middle and then kick it home. This Mehary kid may be special. Can you imagine if Drew Griffith pushed Barega to the line this morning?
This is admittedly maybe the most boring fantasy league meet of the last two seasons, since it’s so much a re-run of last week’s Xiamen meet (most athletes want to go 2-for-one if they’re traveling all the way to China). Lots of events where the wise move is probably to predict a Xiamen repeat.
There are a few interesting new entrants, though. Selemon Barega and the youngster Biniam Mehary in the 5k. Emma Coburn in the steeple. Sedjati and Moula in the 800.
And of course, before the DL events kick off Letesenbet Gidey makes her 2024 debut in what appears to be a 5k WR attempt. Unfortunately this might not be broadcast anywhere we can find it.
Shanghai is 12 hours ahead of US Eastern, so Gidey’s 5k will start at 6:29 a.m. Saturday morning (ET) and the broadcast window begins at 7:00 ET.
If you’re entering the fantasy contest, you’ll want to make your picks based on the current start lists as there are some athletes listed on the contest page who have since withdrawn.
Alright unless Richardson did 8 x 300 yesterday she MIGHT be cooked
What exactly was the deal with the euros/aussies in that 5k. Off the pace immediately and not close to the world standard. Take these guys outside of BU and the times drop off pretty quick. Good reminder that racing is not time trialing.
After running 8:55 in Xiamen last weekend, Beatrice Chepkoech only ran 9:07 in the steeple today but it was still enough to crush everyone else.
Nice 9:19 pb for American Gabi Jennings in 5th. But a disaster for Emma Coburn, who flew all the way to China for her season opener and wound up a DNF in her first race since Worlds.

Not sure where exactly some of these guys are looking at getting the 5km standard but for the Aussies it seemed like a total waste even going to China. There's no more Men's 5000m in Diamond League is in Rome at the end of August. Ramsden got 13:26/DFL and DNS Rayner got 13:18 and 13:19 Stewy got 13:05 Morgan McDonald got 13:18
