Fisher and Monson are the top Americans now. Tuohy regressed and is not running. Does everyone get a trophy in your world? Joe Biden wasn't president until he was. Every child can be president.
It’s almost like she didn’t run the collegiate record in the 5k in May. She had almost 20 second faster time in the 5k than every other woman in the 5k and came in 7th at senior USAs in that event.
Letsrun used to be full of Tuohy lovers but her haters have become lunatics over the last few months.
Obviously she hasn’t had the year she had last year, but you can’t go back and discredit how dominant she was over the NCAA from Fall 2022 through May 2023. She still fought like hell for that team title in November and had a bad day for her. It’s not like she came in 50th+ and ran terrible.
And when she is healthy and show up this spring, we will get a real idea of where she is at.
Go back a few years and read your dozens of posts making that prediction.
if you feel that strongly you should cite the offending posts
here you go, a thread on Brynn with a bunch of Astro comments and I do not see one questioning her future. Questioning if that time trial would translate to a race, yes, but not her future. There are a few predictions about whose future might look better, but not by Astro, and so far not very right.
I'm curious. Realistically, no US female runner had a chance to medal in the Olympics or outdoor WC from the 1500m upward. And heck, how much money do Mu or Sydney gold medalists, generate for Nike? Anything? Does not seem like much. Outside of the 100m champions, sports fans do not even know them. Maybe there is a prestige in saying they are Nike athlete who run about once a year. But this is not exactly a lucrative or popular sport, and my guess is they don't move the revenue needle at all.
Now for Adidas they have Ethiopian runners who are medal contenders, due of course to they "natural talent", ie the shameless use if PEDs, but if they win, so what. Maybe they carve out a nice lifestyle in Ethiopia, with a sleezy Italian agent and the rest, but they won't make Adidas a cent. And no self-respecting sports fan thinks it is on the level anyway.
Now Cranny and Monson have had nice careers. But again do they make one red penny for their sponsors? No. Not their fault, but no. This sport makes no money unless you are a sprinter coming back from a doping ban. Lol.
So getting back to Tuohy, lets say her career is "done", that she never has as good a running career as some of her US peers. She has already built a huge amount of good will with US runners. If she posts about an Adidas shoe, it probably has more impact already than when more established pros do so.
It is just interesting. I expect her to have a very nice career. The only thing that will hold her back is that she is too well adjusted and might balk about some of the conventions of pro running. Take her natural talent level and combine with a more ruthless attitude, and that could be something. It she lived in the UK or another more lenient jurisdiction with the wink and nod of the sports "authorities" and the casual fraud of their "athletes", and again who knows. But anyway.
