all I can think is I cannot believe we will never get the Kiptum vs. Kipchoge showdown. It could of been one of/the greatest race of all time.... man....
I feel the same as the day Pre died. I was in van with the track team on the way to a meet, a five hour drive, when the news came on the radio. I just remember the disbelief and then silence for a long time.

An interesting race, yes. But I think that Kiptum would have won easily.
Kipchoge is still an excellent runner, but he is past his prime.
What I am sad the most about is my sadness for his Wife and 2 kids he leaves behind. Also reminds me of Steve Prefontaine. Great runners both lost their lives at age 24
Has a world record holder in his prime ever died before?
Rudolf Harbig
I had no idea who Rudolf Harbig was, so I looked him up.
He was a German who set the world record in the 800 in Germany in May, 1941. A few months after that he was sent to fight against the Soviet Union. He was killed in Ukraine in 1944.
I thought my friend was kidding when he texted me the news. What a horrific tragedy. So you, with so much promise, destined for greatness. A huge HUGE loss for the sport.
I told one of my older friends who I view as a second father that Kenya should only select two athletes to represent the country. And posthumously elect him to the team and leave an opening on the start line at Rotterdam and the Olympic games where he would have been on the start.
jesus christ that's awful. 24 is so young, and he had so much to give. the marathon was shaping up to be one of the best events this year. i hate that's the first thing my mind goes to, but it seems unreal that he can be gone just like that
