Greatest US female high school distance runner of all-time. That never fades. :)
Mary Cain and Mary Decker would like a word with you.
Cain: 9th in the World Championship final of the 1500m at age 17
Decker: Defeated 800m Olympic silver medalist in 800m; set first world record at age 15
Overall, I have to go with Decker but I think the competition was a little weaker for women in her teenage years than it was for Cain. Far and away the best two HS females ever.
I consider the 800m a sprint distance. I have a dimmer view of what Cain did with Nike/Salazar. I will go with Tuohy. Cain never won a single xc title.

Cain had a better hs career than Touhy by quite a bit.
Cain made a world final at 1500 in Moscow.
Went to 2 world finals at U20, including winning gold at 3000m in Eugene.
Touhy never ran for Usatf in hs/u20/open.
Cain faster in hs at 800, 1500, mile, 3000 and 2 mile.
At 5000 the gap is small Touhy 15:37 v Cain 15:45.
In xc Cain was 2nd at NXN, so it's not like she was weak.
Touhy is best xc runner though based on sheer volume of achievement and consistency.
You keep pretending that those accomplishments were after she started running for Salazar and in pro or wc races. Sure Tuohy could have gone pro, run for a very shady coach and myopically mortgaged her future for the short term. I like my choice.
Here is Astro again. He is retroactively accusing Cain. He tries to destroy every female who is better than tuohy. Cain was tested multiple times. Tuohy has never been tested. When she has some whereabouts failures, Astro will have the excuses.

Running is a fact and results based sport. Cain put up hs results when she was in high school. No one offered Touhy to go pro in hs, as her 400/800 speed was not fast enough.
Young distance pros are speed burners, not aerobic strength runners.
You think Cain was doping?
Her critics say she was fat and unprofessional, not a doper. Does not, however, change her results.
As to the later issue, who knows? Salazar was banned for very good reasons. But no need to go there. All it would take is being put on a dangerous nutrition regiment and being overtrained to gain speed at the price of her future. That is what Cain's lawsuit was about. Tuohy absolutely could have run faster in high school sans injury if she had done that. And destroyed her career and health.

Cain's lawsuit, rather humorously, only came after several attempts on her part to get Salazar to readmit her to NOP. People forget that it was Salazar, who dismissed her from NOP due poor performance.
I'm much more of a Touhy fan than a Cain fan, so no Ill will here. You just can't disregard Cain's results (or Efraimson, Decker, Cranny etc)
If you watch over time, you will note that Touhy will never have much sprint speed. You can improve, but foot speed is mostly genetic.
She ran her 3200 record at the first outdoor meet ( a small meet at that) of the HS season on the far NW side of San Antonio where no national records have ever been set. I can't ever remember a State record being set there. It certainly wasn't the kind of meet Milesplit would cover. She's not some sort of fluke, she won the State 1600 last year, the State XC Championship in November and the Foot Locker/ Kinney/Hoka Nationals in December. She led most of the Nike Nationals until close to the the end. Two weeks ago she ran and won the 3000 meters at an indoor college meet at Texas Tech against D1 schools (not the HS category). She won the 3000 by 41seconds. For now she is the real deal. And as noted earlier she's an incredibly bright, articulate and nice young lady. Women 3000 Meter Run Timed Final. Name Finals Yr School Finals 1 9:16.84 Elizabeth Leachman SO Unattached 2 9:57.03 London Culbreath JR TCU 3 10:03.04 Isabella Richardson SO UCF 4 10:11.06 Mariana Martinez JR

I have to disagree that the 800m is a sprint distance. It is categorised as middle distance. It requires aerobic endurance and not just speed. As she showed later in her career over 3k, Decker was a great distance athlete.
I saw Decker run as a teenager. I recall her beating the Olympic 800 silver medallist at age 14. She was an incredible talent. have never seen a high schooler like her.

You should have seen Athing Mu. She ran a 600m in high school for the ages, best eventual Olympic Bronze medalist.

Yes, beating an doped up Russian at age 14 while beeing clean. What do you think when she started to dope? Age 10? 12?
Stop fighting about Mu amd Decker. Both arebworld class. So was Cain. Tuohy was a nice high school runner but she is not in the same category as the others.
