You can get a stress fracture of the patella. I actually think another Trials competitor mentioned she had one in the past. So it just sounds like overuse that turned into a stress fracture, no trauma or anything. It's definitely a weird one though.
Just checked - yeah, Susanna Sullivan on her athlete bio said she had a patellar stress fracture.

Actually, I've had patellar issues for years and mostly ignored them. Don't like the idea of a possible patellar stress fracture. But I also only run 30 mpw now.

That said, Molly may have been raised priveleged but has worked hard to get where she is in the running pecking order. It's unfortunate that if you think she is one of USA's best, she isn't going to represent our country.
But I'm confident whoever is 1-2-3 on Saturday has earned their spot. It's what makes the trials so great.
She had the amazing Olympic story including the qualifying and the eventual medal. She had the unlikely HS-NCAA national champion combination.
But after the medal, her elatedness and off the course behavior subjected her to some very deserving ridicule.

The response that you're addressing, was in response to someone that used the screenname of "Adderall doper." Methinks that if some was just asking for a discussion of what happened to Molly, without the screenname that seconded as a backhanded dig at her, the response would not have been about the haters coming out of the woodwork. You should know that.
Being a sports fan is one thing. Asking questions an all of that is fine. Asking questions under the guise of being interested or concerned, while taking a shot, is something else altogether.
Never seen a group of more pathetic people than the posters on Let's Run. Seidel made an Olympic team running her first marathon. Was an Olympic Bronze medalist after her third, and several of the weak trolls on here say she isn't very good. They revel in her failures and disappointments. It's truly pathetic. I feel bad for her. 3 years of hope and work gone. Maybe she has some issues in her personal life. That's her business, not yours. And people are criticizing her for dropping an F-bomb, and for pretty much everything else. Grow up. All of you, myself included, are far from perfect. She works harder and is more talented than 99% of the people on this board.
What do you expect from a group of losers? It happens on a daily basis on this cesspool. Frustrated do-nothings bag on those that are better than they are and those that have accomplished something, just to feel better about themselves in some perverse way.
I have a theory that too much cross training just hampers recovery time. Molly I imagine has hit it really hard to make up for not being able to run but sometimes you just have to channel the bodies energy into recovery, rather than diverting that energy to recovering from epic cross training workouts.

Being a sports fan of leagues such as the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, etc. is different from being a sports fan of Olympic events. The public does not follow Olympic athletes for 8 months a year, every year. Most Olympians toil in obscurity for 4 years, then get 19 days in the spotlight. Lamar Jackson is there to put on a months-long show. The entertainment element of athletic performance is much less when watching people like Molly Seidel. Criticism of each should be reasonably proportional.
