That's a narrow view of what USATF has control over. They could move up the date of the event to early December when it would be aligned better with the US season. That leaves a big gap before Worlds (in some years), but who cares.
That makes no sense. Most of these college U20 runners are only running in today's meet in order to qualify for Worlds.
If their college coach wouldn't let them run Worlds in February because it would conflict with their college conference indoor track meets, then there would be no point in December for them to try to qualify for Worlds when they had no intention to go.
Many coaches and athletes would see the December timing as more potential benefit than cost (the cost being taking away from some base training between XC and indoor). Only the top 4 (plus 2 for team of 6?) go to worlds, so very few would advance and continue to be impacted, but if someone actually did make worlds, many coaches and athletes would consider that experience preferential to messing with a few weeks of track season.
As opposed to the current timing, where the US race is taking away from indoor track for the 90%+ who have little to no chance of advancing to worlds.
The women went out faster in the first k than the men. How about picking up the pace!

Yr right, that comment was off the mark. Top six go to Belgrade and Logue will will hardly be upset about not pocketing an extra $150 for finishing 4th.
Morgan Pearson the only Olympic medalist in the field
