It literally isn’t. Choking is defined as “fail(ure) to perform at a crucial point of a game or contest owing to a failure of nerve.” That doesn’t describe what happened to BYU at all. They were the exact opposite of choking in that they had too much nerve/confidence. Again, a nuance the ignorant can’t grasp.
