Hopefully you are correct. I just think at some point academic leadership at many of these schools is going to start questioning the reason for having athletics in the first place. I don't expect this to happen at every school certainly not those with money (like the Ivy's) but I see it happening at many of the schools that weren't fortunate in the football conference money lottery. Just think how much money they can save if they don't sponsor sports.
again, I hope I'm wrong and you are right.
A lot of schools bring in people BECAUSE of their athletes. Fans of the school, athletes on the team, etc. Who knows what will happen! I guess we should start a new thread about this and get back to jobs.
Per your request, I will move on from this topic after this comment because I can't predict the future.
But ask yourself, at your school, beyond the actual student athletes who attend your school how many other student at the school are there because the school has athletics?

Bro calm down, don’t stress so much, no one will want to hire you if you are always this high strung… there are no jobs at the moment so all will be fine with a little hypothesizing about if there will be jobs in the future.
BRO I put 7 letters in caps and you think I'm high strung? I've been gainfully employed in the coaching world and loving it. I'm not worrying about losing my job. I think things will be fine for a long while, especially if coaches continue to vote in their best interests.

Sorry for getting defensive earlier in our conversation. I do think this topic is important for coaches to talk about. I'll also make one last post on here about this then leave it alone.
We're in a weird profession where we compete against other coaches in meets and for jobs, yet we are our #1 advocates for growing our sport. It's a weird dynamic. Only us coaches understand the nature of the job deeply and that should bond us together. We all have a lot in common so it's funny that a lot of college coaches don't get along. These threads are usually cutting down the accomplishments of employed coaches, but there are real issues on the horizon that seem small now but could snowball like this xc scholarship thing.
I understand your rhetorical question, however I do believe that the best way to get word out about universities is through athletics. At least at most schools outside of the Ivy Leagues. If you work at a D3 or NAIA a lot of the times you are a major driver in enrollment. A lot of those schools are no larger than an average high school, yet the athletic department brings in 300-500 athletes per year. Schools actively tell coaches at those levels to bring in athletes and incentivize them financially. I know one NAIA school in particular that gives bonuses for x number of athletes and also $2000 in their budget per athlete.
I can 1000% confirm that this was a female needed hire. I won’t go into detail but I know from what was told to me that this is what they HAD to do.
My guy, respectfully, you all have to get over this type of stuff. The HC isn’t in control here he had to hire a female with all those Males on staff either the sprints hire or distance hire needed to be a female. Get over it she will not have any scholarships or any control over the program it’s not that big of a position if you aspire to make a name for yourself.
Dave smith, Mike smith, ed eystone I can go on and on Any of these guys would have woke up one morning and said oh I think I just want to be an assistant coach now and ooo Oklahoma is available, they would have been turned down. Trust me it doesn’t matter when they need what they need that’s what they’re going to hire. So just ignore it move on
Anna Bearss is a young coach with some solid experience prior to Oklahoma. Maybe there were some foul things going on prior that made the ADs say hey we need to give a female coach a legitimate chance. According to my calculations, three female coaches have left the program within three years or so. That could totally be nothing, but I highly doubt it.

When the women don't stand for inferiority, they get out of dodge. Anna can do well. Let's just hope the Sooners treat her well.
This will be the fifth school she has coached at in the past three years - SDSU, Bradley, Akron, Drake, and now OU. For her sake, I hope it's a good fit. If it's not a good fit, James will make the changes needed heading into the SEC this coming summer. Having been in this position many times recently, Anna should be able to hit the ground running coaching wise. Her biggest challenge will be getting SEC caliber recruits and their parents to believe she's competent and staying at OU.

The former distance coach was a female. So any foul things from her would make it less likely to hire another female.
This one at least has significantly more experience then the last one

You're a complete nitwit.
You clearly admit that this is tokenism hire, purely based off reproductive organs and that she's a place filler with no accountability or power. What's worse? This obvious dynamic at play or....(God forbid wait for it...) ...AN ALL MALE STAFF ....Dun Dun DUNNNNNNNN.
It appears this is a classic DIE move by OU. It's to be expected. Wasn't this done with the last staff? How'd that work out again?
If James is going to be hired to do his job and assemble his staff, let him do it his way, even if it turns out it's like the rest of the NCAA and looks like an HCBU. Live and die by your success.
Best wishes to her. I hadn't heard her name before, I had to Google her. Hope she has success recruiting and developing talent and winning titles in the SEC. She shall be known for the fruits of her labour.

It’s just an other “you must hire a female” position. No really good runners will go run for her. Oklahoma U will go back to being terrible in distance
Could it be that the other candidates he wanted did not want that position? I don't know. I am asking is that a possible factor.
Who in their right mind would not pursue a top tier athletic department program in the middle of the country with incredible funding that's in a Power 5 Conference...?
And that's the problem. If any extremely qualified men actually did pursue this job, rest assured they reached out to James or a proxy of his and were immediately met with refusal: Sorry, don't apply....the hire HAS to be a female.
How's that not a Civil Rights Violation? (yes, before you low IQ loons downvote eagerly, we get it.... "it's our time")
This is what you get when you worship at the altar of the church of D.I.E. Although eventually, it does collapse on its own weight and at some point you commit what the Japanese call Seppuku and just drive a sword in your gut.
Boomer Sooner. Good luck. If they do well? I'll eat my words - you CANNOT argue with success in this sport. Actual success, not some shi**y write up by a media relations intern using verbiage such as "guided so an so to two conference titles!"

My guy, you’re saying the same thing I said. I clearly stated I wasn’t going Into detail then you proceeded to go into detail.
what everyone said after us is all guessing. What I know is from the horses mouth. They’ve always hired female distance coaches for the need for a female on staff. If they would have hired a female sprints coach(they were looking for one) then it would have made the distance position more of a comprehensive search. But the comprehensive search went into sprints which makes sense going into the SEC.

First of all, I’m not an idiot. And I actually agree with a lot of what you have been saying on here.
I can see you’re reading this wrong. I never said I agree to what they’re doing I’m just stating what it is. Whether I agree with it or not they still did what they did.
