I don´t think you know much about Law, at least not Scandinavian Law. If Gjert has beaten Ingrid which almost seems to be verified now not only by the brothers´ statement but also by various information coming from Norwegian people close to family
(some close enough to know the neighbours´ reaction to the incident with Ingrid)...........
Then we talk about a potential Criminal case not a civil lawsuit so nobody needs to "press charges". As a criminal case there is Public Prosecution so the police is obliged to start an investigation if it is suspected that a criminal offense has taken place.
By the way: It has been stated that Gjert initially WAS reported to the police but that the report was withdrawn. Possibly to avoid publicity about the case.
But as described above it really shouldn´t be possible to withdraw the reporting of a criminal offense, ESPECIALLY NOT WHEN THE VICTIM IS AN UNDERAGE FAMILY MEMBER.
If the police has known of the case 2 years ago I consider it a failure that if they accepted at the time that the family "withdrawed" the case.
With my remarks above in mind it is of course fully correct if the police now reopens the case based on the brothers´ statement. It should, however, never have been closed in the first place.
