What a talent Welteji is. The passing of the guard and dawn of the next superstar? Welteji just did something Tsegay never has in 15 tries - beat Kipyegon.

That was interesting to watch. It was literally like no big deal to her. Timed perfectly and seemingly effortlessly.

Women’s results FINALLY up!
Incredibly impressive win by Ethiopia’s Welteji in 4:23, a new World Record, easily passing Kipyegon.
Wiley? Traveled across the globe to represent America in an embarrassingly slow 4:36.
What’s worse? America’s SCHLACHTENHAUFEN in 4:40.
Ladies, you just got paid to travel around the world to represent America and there are high school girls who run faster than you.
Embarrassing.
Kipyegon? Traveled across the globe to represent Kenya in an embarrassingly slow 4:24 after running 4:07 earlier this year. EMBARRASSING!
You're pathetic, man. Addy finished 8th IN THE WORLD as a 19-year-old. Which year did you make top-10 at worlds?
I guess Addy could have stayed home and placed 7th at NCAAs.

Welteji is impressive this year but her time was very slow. Ofc just a bad day in the office for Kipyegon, she is only human.
Even such Jemma Reekie won the 5th Ave this year in 4:19.4.
go addy! wrote:

Say what you want. (( I did )).
Globe-trotting to run a 4:36 is ridiculous.
Why are you so fixated on Wiley? Her season ended with the 1:57. She had one of the greatest seasons for a 19 year old. Happy now?
Great run by Kessler but it’s ridiculous they’re calling that a world record time

Interesting that in the official printed program for this event, USA’s Sara Hall is written about (and pictured) as representing the USA in the 1/2 marathon. Yet, she’s not on the online list of entrants.
Anyone know what happened?
Injured, she updated that on Instagram post

Very entertaining. That was a whole crowd at the end.
Excellent race by Hobbs.
Let's hope he can translate that specific talent to the track next year.
So, at 20 years of age , just 2 years removed from high school, we now have:
Hobbs Kessler . . . World Champion & World Record Holder.
Hard to wrap my head around that.
Nuguse, Hocker, Kessler, et al.
Next year's Oly Trials men's 1500 is shaping up . . .

Fantastic run by Callum Elson!
Amazing. I didn't expect top 10 places front he British team so a silver is great news. I wonder if some of the bigger names are regretting not taking a place now. Elliot Giles, Neil Gourley, George Mills, all top 1500 guys but not quite at the level of challenging for the podium on the track. This was a chance to add a medal to their résumé, any of the three would probably have taken gold over Kessler.
Also, what happened to R. Cheruiyot? 4:05 is awful for a guy of his talent

Ofc, Welteji finished in 4:21.00 - not 4:23. But yep, even Reekie was faster.
Seems like you’re trying to bait the Wileyfiles. Is that necessary?

I saw 500m out that Kessler would win. When Reynold and Munguti were fading it was no surprise that Kessler would be the fastest.
The Kenyan milers had a bad day!
Good correction. Better luck being a decent fan of the sport next time.
