How about this - how often do you all think Jakob wins in the following scenarios:
A) running 3:27 pace from the gun (not waiting to go hard like he did in the final)
B) sit and kick with 400-200 to go
C) sit and kick with 600-400 to go
A) 0%. He isn't soloing a 3:27 and will be lucky to break 3:30 after going out 2 hard
B+c are hard as we don't know what his kick is like. Reality is if you are at the front and run a 51s 400m in any reasonable race (call it sub 59 pace), it is really hard for people to run 50.5s to beat you. And it is worse for everyone who isn't right on your shoulder. But can Jacob run that fast? Who knows.
His best tactic is to have someone else take it out in like 3:31 pace for 1100m and the. Kick the last 400 to run a 3:28 high. But there aren't many rabbits in championship races. He was lucky in Toyoko that the race set up perfectly for him.
Henrik has a long vent, blaming the national athletics association for causing stress on Jakob, which influenced his overall wellbeing and caused him to miss out on the win. "Obviously the system around Jakob has failed completely", he said. "When an elite athlete and gold-favorite has the worst day of the year in a WC final, it is obvious that he hasn't been taken care of correctly."
When asked whether he could specify things that the association should have done differently, Henrik says, "everything". "Im not pointing to anything (specifically), but it is obvious that outside influences reduced him so that he couldnt perform his best".
When pushed to explain why Jakob didn't consult a doctor about this unspecified illness, that was revealed only after loosing gold, Henrik replied, sarcasticall, "what could they do?"
Urgh, yeah - this is awful from Henrik. He and Jakob and team lobbied successfully against their own father to deny him coaching credentials to protect the precious Jakob. Whatever happened between them, it’s not okay to lobby your national federation against your own (former) coach and father to deny him entry to the track to train his own runners. Especially after the poor man basically sacrificed everything (and lived and breathed running) to make them the champions they are since they were little kids. So, suddenly he’s meant to dump his passion for coaching and running because Henrik and Jakob no longer want him as coach?! They actively sabotage him and deny anotherNorwegian medalist his coach? An athlete who also deserves his coach present? ‘Honor thy father’ is a good tenet to live by - I’m no religious nut, but I feel sorry for poor old Gjert. With all his foibles, he’s essentially a decent and good man. With spoilt, entitled sons like this (who owe him a lot), who the hell needs enemies. Ya don’t make this sort of thing in to a public slanging match with your own dad! Never, never, never. I’ve lost a lot of respect for the Inge’s because of this.
Team Gjert/Nordas, or specifically Nordås himself is the one that has commented on this publicly in the media before this. The brothers havent said a word.

Did they, or did they not, lobby against their own father to deny him coaching credentials..? That’s public knowledge at this point.
That Norwegian doctor needs to be asked by legitimation handling authorities if he was informed about Jakob's fever before OR after the race!
Running with a fever can cause endocarditis and is one of the most stupid things an athlete can do. No responsible medical professional would ever allow that.
It would not have happened on their Nording Skiing national team, they're so strict that they keep regular track of (for one) their skier's BMI and takes them off the whole team for months if they start flirting with anorexia or other health issues.
Just to reiterate: there is no Norwegian doctor or diagnosis in the picture. The only indication that there was is the OP, who is not Norwegian and heard some fourth-hand rumor. Henrik Ingebrigtsen confirmed after his own 5000m that Jakob has not consulted a doctor, adding that there is no point as a doctor "wouldn't be able to do anything" (he also made a sarcastic refernce to a notorious quack doctor from a few decade ago).
Hence, the only thing we have about a fever is a brief, vague and non-committal comment from Jakob himself, said in passing. FWIW, his pre-final interview by NRK, an hour or so before start, was void of any suggestion about dry throats, fevers or ailments. Without independent verification, it's just you believe him or you don't.

Go Team Gjert/Nordas!
You’d think they pushed him down a flight of stairs and took turns hucking bowling balls down on top of him the way you’re crying about whatever transpired
Wow imagine that! He is sick and is still running it! And all these people disrespecting him on these message boards. This is why Letsrun will forever be garbage.
I know. These idiots forget he's the Olympic champion, for Christ. Not to mention the defending 5k WC champion.
I told you guys there are a lot of haters, losers, and Beta Males who are on this site.
So you think Kerr would have solo won it without Jakob as a pacemaker?
Impala,
You have really bad grasp of this. If Jakob could close like Centro, he would sit in the pack as long as possible. He can’t. The longer Jakob allows the pace to be slow, the worse his odds get.
Therefore, because it is guaranteed that he’ll lose a slow pace, he has to make it a fast pace to win. Without a rabbit, he isn’t good enough to drop the kickers behind him.
