IF you had asked me in the 1970s if a 17-year-old girl would run 4:17 in the mile, I would have been too flabbergasted to answer! But with the shoes, tracks, medicine, training, and the fact that many stadiums have no wind, it is not surprising people are running so fast. It's downright disrespectful to old-timers to have that lighting pacesetter. Get rid of it.
Sorry but tonight there is going to be the 3000m steeplechase final. Why everybody is still on this thread while there is no discussion in steeplechase predictions thread?

OK Nick, I will go there ASAP! SORRY for the inconvenience.
Update: I cannot find it. Nick can you bump it?

Does it contain lies and false rumours as your 1500 thread?
I could see Hocker pulling the same move Murphy pulled in Rio 2016, letting Jakob, Nuguse, and Kerr run their time trial that will decimate the rest of the field and allow Hocker to steal some souls over the final 150m. I imagine there’s a good chance one of those top 3 will fade hard off of a failed move for gold and that could potentially put Hocker or another strong kicker on the podium.
-Jakob acts as the pacemaker and drags the entire field to historically fast times (like 8 under 3:30 and the entire field under 3:32)
-Any scenario in which Nuguse or Hocker medal
-(To a lesser degree) Any scenario in which Laros medals
Outcomes I’ll be unhappy with:
-The race isn’t particularly fast, with nobody setting PBs (and the Americans don’t medal)
-Jakob and Nordas go 1-2 (even if an American took bronze this would be hard to stomach, and I’m sure the Norwegians on this board would be insufferable)
I think the odds are in my favor for a happy outcome (🤞). Of course the dream outcome would be if Nuguse won and sent Jakob home devastated, but I think there’s practically no chance of that happening.

Very excited for it!
Maybe he'll unleash that devastating kick for 6th place again

You think a Norwegian 1-2 would be insufferable. How about a British 1-2? We'd never hear the end of it.
I think the most fun scenario though it'd be weird is a complete surprise podium with nobody who's ever medaled before. Probably impossible with Jakob, though.
Much as I respect Katir's bronze last year within a pretty rocky season, I don't love that a huge part of it was him shoving Tim out of the way with an inside pass (that ended Tim's chances and gave him a big advantage on others who had to go wide). I'd rather we get a cleaner finish with the heavy-hitters all kicking hard.
So I'm more hoping that we feel like the podium is filled with the 3 best runners, and let's throw 2012 as another semi-unsatisfying final with Makhloufi muscling multiple guys off their races. But with this many guys in the same range, it might come down to gray-area shoving and cutting off.
