So do you think they're really providing him pacers that pace the first half at 60'25"?
First half of London marathon 2023 was paced at 61'40" and First half of Valencia Marathon 2022 was 61'38".
This won't be announced for weeks if at all. 60:25 is unlikely even if he's chasing after the record. Expect 61:00 or 61:15 instead — I'm just using common sense.
I imagined that, even 61' or 61'15" seems impossible to me. I mean London and Valencia usually have the very top tier pacers and they were paced 61'40" and 61'38" respectively. I doub that Chicago has pacers who are as good as London or Valencia ones, if there are any.
A few of my running mates at the Riis Park Striders are usually in fine shape that time of year and they promise they will escort Kiptum to the 13.1M point in 60:15 and then see if he can negative split.
Do you think Bashir Abdi could still be on his shoulder at halfway?
This doesn't make any f****g sense. He could have ran an other 2h1' in Valencia and even make a WR with the help of pacers and a beautiful course in an epic duel with Cheptegei.
He had chosen Chicago with no pacers, no top tier marathoners. He will run a poor 2h03' in he is in a perfect shape or even a 2h04'. This choice simply doesn't make sense. I'm so disappointed.
