It's disappointing to see people on letsrun of all places give credence to the idea of a distinct "non-binary" identity and the conceptual and ideological baggage that attends it, all of which was relegated to fringe, weirdo leftist circles until pretty recently. To see this stuff go so quickly from insane leftist weirdness that even liberals would dismiss out of hand as self-evidently ridiculous to mainstream acceptance from even some so-called "conservatives" has been one of the most bizarre things I've witnessed in my life.
There is not an organic "non-binary" identity, and the concept itself is nonsensical. People who call themselves "non-binary" are people who've immersed themselves for too long in a leftist milieu obsessed with deconstructing gendered social norms and then have neurotically introspected until they've convinced themselves that, e.g., they're not actually a woman because being a woman means liking x or doing y and they don't like x or do y. It doesn't help that it's an instant way to feel special and unique while also giving one instant membership to the vanguard of a burgeoning social justice movement and plenty of opportunities to express righteous anger at awful bigots.
It may seem like a minor thing, but if you are at all concerned about males in women's sports or with the massive increase in children permanently stunting their adult development with puberty blockers, you shouldn't give the concept of "non-binary" even an iota of credence. You cannot conceptually separate these things. They all stem from the idea that we have a vague, subjective "gender identity" that is impossible to define and inscrutable to everyone but oneself, and that exists completely separately from one's biological sex or even from one's outward presentation or the social norms that one follows, yet somehow takes primacy over all these things. Normal people should laugh this stuff out of the room.
