Notably, defending champion Plainfield South is down at 14. Speaking of Plainfield South, they had their beginning of season time trial a week and a half ago:
Viger is solidly in the #1 spot, Maloney/Borger are an excellent 2/3 (with Borger coming close to his lifetime PR and looking primed for a potential all state season). Joaquin DeAlba is the clear #4, then Riley Fink is #5 but only 12 seconds ahead of sophomore Austin Cory and 14 seconds ahead of freshman Alex Batsala. If those two progress like they could during the season, could make a huge difference for the team - right now, they need their #5 closer to DeAlba and DeAlba closer to Maloney/Borger.
The spirit of Joe Newton will come back and visit all York runners this fall while they sleep….. By October 1st they will be a top team in the state. Coach Kern was probably visited by his spirit after last season and was told “never again”.

Was just told by a York boys xc alumni that they are holding a fundraiser for uniforms and equipment. That is truly strange but I also saw a pic posted by Mike Newman of the team's first meeting and their squad looked really small compared to the Newton era. Don't know if it was the camera angle but it appeared to have been taken from the back and I only saw maybe 20 or 25 guys.
Were they defunded?
So is there really only 20 or 25 York guys on the team this year?
Hey ...I was told this by someone connected to the York program and he was questioning it. And my school never did any fundraising. Why don't you get a life and shut your piehole.
Nearly every school does fundraising, he is right
York has not in the past however which is why the person was questioning it. Don't you guys read?
York being 19th is crazy. People aren't going see them coming at all. I think this year they are extremely underrated due to last years results.
I agree. I think they are better than last year
Newman is a hardcore York and WSC guy so if he has them at 19th you can be sure that ranking may be a little hopeful. Seriously, they lost 5 of their top 7 from a team that got 11th in sectionals and now apparently has reduced numbers. Did they recruit from Newbury Park?
yes who isn’t grateful for the york program. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t be the strong distance running state that we are. They made everyone better year after year. Sounds like you never made varsity at york or they had 73 runners in front of you at a dual meet. no need to hate on them. One off year in a historical year in the state doesn’t sound the alarm across the state.
Hard work. only real way to success. Just like every other time York has done it, we see a group of 7 men who work hard to earn it - I see just that in this years top 7. I strongly disagree at putting them at 19th, but only time will tell.
