Sorry but this is silly, why are you complaining about not running a full team; look at their 3 of the 7 and you can slo0t in where the team is, it is not like playing a football game with interaction on the course. I am guessing that none of those top 21 teams will actually get points on Wisconsin, as they may not run four of the Nutty entrants on the Regional team (but Big ens allows for a lot of entrants - used to be nine but I heard something that seemed to say 12). It is pretty easy to see where they would have been (e.g., put in Liking at, say 5 and pull out 221, so drop 216 points to 332, they slot above #8 Colorado. Add in Spencer or the other two 'starting 7' and drop 125 or so replacing a 186. This drops them further to 207, third behind BYU...
Anyone that ranked UW as far back as they were is just simply not using their XC brain fully. As for picking Michigan ahead of them, when UW runs where they need to race hard (NCAAs) as few as one Michigan guy will beat their number 5. I would not be surprised if the guys ran hard but not quite all out, since another two-thirds of an inch has fallen on still moist turf, the forecast a day or two ago called for close to an inch more than they will have gotten by race time. So it will be squishy where Nico was sliding around at Nutty.
My results are not as stark as yours but I get the same general effects you cite. I now drink most days but only a glass and I am decades past competing but I still run a lot for my age.
But you can't rank a team very high when they placed that low. Rankings are a reflection of what a team has done. Imagine if Michigan football doesn't play their starters in a few games.
I pulled that up and got very confused when I saw a bunch of people who graduated last year. I thought for a second that maybe every team had just been holding out half their team all season...
Mick Byrne needs to be forced to retire. He turned a great program into an also ran. Twice they haven’t even made nationals and before him, they were to 10 every year.
He can’t even recruit. All he does is bring in kids from Australia, New Zealand or Britain. How do you let someone like Aloysius Franzen go to Minnesota? It seems like half of MN’s team is from WI. The list of good in state kids leaving is a long one. They haven’t even brought in a Foot Locker National qualifier since 2019. Name the last blue chip kid that they landed? Finn Gessner probably and he was a massive bust. What about Austin Henderson and Jake Bourget, what happened to them? Both were due to be solid contributors the next couple years. Neither are on the roster anymore.
And why don’t you run your best guys in your own prestigious invite? To only run 3 of your top 7 at the premier xc meet in the country is stupidity. Meet results do come into play for nationals.
Wisconsin is still good enough to attract a top coach. Perhaps they could convince Solinsky to come back. I mean Schumacher was an unknown when he took over at Wisconsin, why not give Solinsky a shot. Wisconsin needs to do something to stay competitive with Oregon and Washington joining the Big 10.
I love coming back to the posters complaining about not having their needs met. 19 points, 6 in the top 10. GO HOME DEVASTATED, mick Byrne made Bob liking a superstar after he was a nobody in HS…can’t coach my butt!!!

They had a native Wisconsinite (Olin Hacker) win the NCAA 5k championship just a couple years ago lol

Only took 7 years, with the son of an NCAA and US Champ, who was a Foot Locker & NXN runner-up. So if that's what it takes to have a Wisconsin native run well for Mick, we might be waiting a while.
The year Olin won one NCAA title, the only guy ahead of him NXN & Foot Locker as a HS senior finished 4th & 6th... at Worlds; and also set 3 American records. Awesome that Olin got a national title, but to think it was the result of some masterful job by Mick Byrne is laughable.
Rutgers is no longer the worst men’s team in the Big 10, Nebraska grabs that honor.
Yes, but Rutgers women also second to last like men....making them the worst XC team in the BIG10. They got a new coach in 2020, but they appear worse now than they were before him (how is that possible?)
Sorry, you are saying that you should not use what you know [because XC is just like football?]. It was easy to go to Nutty results and slot the #1 and #5 from this race (and #10 Liking in where he finished the last to years (4, 6), and then assume the a 3:31 1500 guy who runs cross can finish a lot further up than 186 and now you have Wisconsin about the same points as BYU. Your method ranks Michigan ahead of Wisconsin; not only did they fail to beat them, but the entire rest of the Big Ten were badly beaten 19 - 37.
Both the NCAA Volleyball (women) and basketball look at who you actually have at the end of the season.
As for a start list, it is almost superfluous since teams were allowed 12 entrants. I guess it could tell you who did not make the trip but it really has almost no value to see a list of 12.
