He's right. The Americans are rather slow by international elite standards. Hocker and Teare are the most overrated runners I can think of. Totally irrelevant and Hocker is going backwards because he's always been a has been.
With Nuguse, the US has a real talent. We'll know more later today, but I see him running sub-3:30 for sure this year. The rest of the Americans are still some way behind. As excited as everyone is getting about Kessler, his performance yesterday only puts him in the same sort of class as people like Matt Stonier who also ran 3:32 last year at age 20. Taking a glass half full POV, I think the US could have more than one man in the World's final this year, which is an improvement.
I gave you a sympathy upvote because 56 dislikes to 0 likes is really unfortunate.
US 1500m is gonna be crazy this year. I really want Centro and Craig to both have a good comeback season, but holy crap how the young guys are stepping up. It might end up taking 3:30 fitness to make the US team by the time championship season rolls around, and that’s insane. Really excited because our middle distance has genuinely hurt my feelings the last couple years. I can see Nuguse being up there with the big guys in the running history books when all is said and done.

Thank you man, cause clearly I was losing sleep over the dislikes of sensitive people I don't know.
I don't know how rooting for our 1500m Team to follow the examples of top tier athletes like (Just as of 2022)
Timothy Cheruiyot (3:28.28)
Jakob Ingebrigtsen (3:28.32)
Mo Katir (3:28.76)
Josh Kerr (3:29.05)
Jake Wightman (3:29.23)
Every one of these guys have medaled in the past Two years and just hitting 3:30 fitness won't be enough. Cole Hocker PR'd 3:31 at the Olympics and didn't even hit Top 5.
Hobbs could become the third Sub-3:30 American 1500 guy. But, we can't praise him just for hitting the standard even tho he lost the race. It's stuff like this 'Participation trophy' mentality that letsrun users put on pros that causes our own moral standards on great running to go down. I find it wild that many of our greatest distance runners existed in the era before supershoes. You'd think with technology improving, that American Distance runners would've been like the Ethiopians by now. But no. We're not.
I concur, great seeing Hobbs beat the arrogant Teare. Centro is promising too, his fitness is coming around, hopefully he can make another team in a few weeks.

What has Cooper ever done that’s arrogant?
Not attacking Cooper or nothing (Cause I don't really care much for BTC athletes to begin with nor am I against them). But some users are referring to the beef Cooper and Centro had like two years ago. He went on Josh Kerr's podcast trashing Centro and is a friend to Evert Silva (who is controversial for dumb reasons in his own right). Apart from that nothing else, being controversial in distance running is like being controversial in elementary school. It holds little water.

Cooper is not arrogant. He is astute and has social media game around him. Pretty funny actually. Well, at least not totally bland.. Won't name names but there are some boring AF runners, personality wise. Particularly in the distance game. Cooper seems to be taking his BTC hazing lumps on the chin as any newb should do.
Trash talk? Who the f**k cares. It's fun and if it was with Centro, well played Cooper. Centro was like 50 cent in 2016 but without that level of money or women. Now he is like VH1's behind the music. Centro deserves any trash talk because he OD'd on swagger and ignored people who told him.
Who the f. cares. Time to stop caring about drama and start caring about track and field. Is american running little league with participation trophies or will we start expecting them to permform against the best, and not give them the crown untill they do?

LOL, believe me I do not care who insults who. I have no personal attachment to runners like that. I'm just pointing out why people may percieve him as arrogant.
As for Centro, he won a gold medal by arguably the least amount of effort possible. Yet in time trials got trashed by everyone. He can talk all he wants, he's receded from relevance ever since and racing young guys rn won't set him up for redemption. I suggest he move up to 10k while he is still can.

As a duck, I'm a fan of both. Centro's swag made him great (on the track). Calling Cooper arrogant if they had a spat seems silly because, well, it's Centro.
Hobbs is a good kid, works hard, has fun in his Warhurst group. Warhurst is seriously funny too. Awesome coach, his irreverence is on 11, funny AF. I'd love to have been coached by Warhurst. Works for Hobbs too and his dad is always around. And Nick Willis, legend... Perfect support for a young pro. Great group.
The USA 1500 team is going to be very interesting. Centro moving in the right direction. Can never count him out. Super stoked for hobbs after a couple meh years! Teare looks good despite looking like he’s been racing on tired legs. Who knows About hocker. Nuguse is an animal this year. Engles with a solid 800 last night. Going to be fun to see how things shake out.
If Nuguse is an animal this year he better show it to day in Rabat. Let's say 2 sec behind Jakob.

3:32. Clearly it's working.
Centro's swag? Ima need you define swag. I just have a feeling the predominantly White upper middle class demographic of Track and Field fans have a different definition of what that means. Which is the main audience of this sport to begin with. My personal indifference to Centro has a lot to do with his 'establishment' mentality. He believes just because he's a medalist he deserves respect by all track fans he meets or his competitors.
Swag comes by those who don't try hard. It seems him and a lot of runners try too hard.
Get outta here. Centro at 22 years of age was 4th in the London Olympics after getting microscopic knee surgery in April of that same year. Medaled in multiple world championships and won the Olympics with tactical prowess. He’s by far the best US middle distance runner ever and it isn’t even close. Bet he makes the Paris team, too.
Didn't these same message boards trash on Kessler all winter? Maybe he has a good coach who takes a long term approach for his development? Maybe one race result doesn't have to mean he made a good/bad decision to go pro. Maybe he's in a situation that's working for him.

4th at LONDON?!!?! So basically, Three guys were better than him (including an American — Leo Manzano).

Like it or not, that's some well earned swagger for Centro.
Whoever brought up Leo Manzano, thank you. Leo was a such a beast for so many years. Truly a great 1500 meter runner.

For a runner as young as Hobbs who has not had much success as a pro, we can all be happy for him having a breakthrough race. You are correct about needing to go sub 3:30 to really be world class but you don’t just wake up and run sub 3:30. This race is progress and Hobbs is still very young! Hopefully he can build on this success, make 3:30-3:35 routine, start winning races and trim a couple more seconds off.
