Did you ask your Collegiate daughter if she cared or not? You say that she did not “seem” to care. I would be interested.
From the video of the South Section race, it seems that patents were not on board with this. Comments were “trip her”…. Seemed to come from moms more than dads. They were saying that out loud. So they did not seem embarrassed about such thoughts.
However, I did not hear any kids say bad things. Kids seemed ok with it.
Since it’s a HS meet, maybe the kids should decide and the parents can keep their opinions to themselves.
I actually am curious about this and I agree. The hs kids should be the ones to determine what to do here. If they aren’t bothered adults should stand down.
but if they are bothered and afraid to speak up it is on adults to be their voices.
No, it is always the responsibility of adults to do the right thing, regardless of what kids think.
I have watched videos of the two trans kids...and obviously feel bad for them knowing their life can't be easy.
My daughter has asked me about this in the past and I have assured her that it wouldn't affect her. Now she's going to have to line up in a prelim on California's biggest stage against one of them...and hopefully she'll make the final (and then face both of them).
But these kids are getting faster and this problem is not going away.
Can I ask you what your daughter thinks about all of this and what you are telling her? My daughter, now a collegiate runner, raced Athena many times. She won a few, lost a few more. She really didn’t seem to care one way or another any more than winning or losing to any of the others in the race.
Sounds like you and your daughter are part of the problem
Not talking a couple girls, am talking none of the girls run, they won't be letting this happen. Just a.....I won't be running how about the rest of you?
Good luck with that. I am sure the entire field doesn't share the same view as you and most wouldn't give up the opportunity to race at State for any reason.
So you'd be ok with your daughters out there vs the far superior athletes, really?

Please don't put words in my mouth. I have an athlete in the field. I am just saying I am not telling my athlete to give up her opportunity.

Nobody, especially parents, should be yelling to trip people.
BUT, as far as the kids seeming not to be bothered- that's not it. The kids are terrified to speak out against it. I don't understand how obtuse people are not to see this.
Obviously SDSU didn't teach you how probability works. There are 24 athletes in the OP's daughter's situation. The chances that at least one parent of the 24 reads Letsrun is very high. What you are doing is just trying to dox and harass him/her. And please don't waste your money on lottery tickets
…and let’s also remember that the odds that one of the two trans kids (and their parents) are reading this board is also high
In the race video, I was shocked at what the parents were saying in the stands. The athlete’s parent were surely in the stands not too far away and the kid herself surely watched the race video afterwards.
The parents of the trans athletes are partly responsible for the negativity their children are facing. I cannot imagine allowing my male child to enter a girls' competition, girls' bathroom/locker room, etc. It's literally unthinkable to me.
Co-signing the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for a healthy teenager is also unthinkable to me. I have a bit of empathy because I know that medicine and mental health professions have been captured by the zealotry, and many probably trust the healthcare professionals treating their kids. However, the trans stuff is essentially a mass psychogenic illness--a Western culture-bound syndrome--made worse for the fact that people are pushing unnecessary and harmful medicines and surgery on kids (and adults) and subjecting the general public to invasions of privacy, violations of conscience and civil rights protections, and threats of public ridicule if one does not comply.
I think the only solution is to lean into this hard.
Get a conservative Christian private school in California to field a basketball team of males that all "identify" as females. Watch them go undefeated and destroy the competition at state by enormous margins.
Liberals will seethe and stop the nonsense.
I'm not kidding. I bet I could get a trolling alt right organization to fund a team of athletic males to do this....
The coach of your dream team would be the biggest POS in the history of HS coaching. I can’t think of anything much worse than using people you hate as pawns to make some stupid point.
I think the problem is this, or at least part of it:
If sporting organisations had an open category for men and for anyone born male (but who now identifies as female) the backlash would be horrific in the USA and elsewhere.
The general public and most politicians do not understand the gigantic gap between men and women's sports performance.
Take someone like Maria Mutola, arguably the best female 800m runner of all time. Where would her best time from one year place on the men's list for that year? Would it even be in the top 1000? I tried looking it up for Keeley Hodgkinson in July 2022 and she does not even make the top 1500 places for men in the rankings.
In terms of athletics, you can't deny biology.
There also needs to be a much lower testosterone cut off. It's just so much of an advantage, but it's by no means the only physical advantage.
Based. The only way to stop this madness would having the 100m finals be all male
If that’s the only way, the madness will never end. I’m not aware of a single transgender sprinter competing this year at an high level and certainly not nine(?) in one state.
At the state level, it’s very possible that the transgender athlete policies will never change as it’s unlikely that any state will want to require minors to undergo testosterone suppression and not even Fina and WA are calling for complete bans.

A little reality testing, people. Athena Ryan is not Jakob Ingebritsen. Fair or not that’s she’s in the race, she’s not far superior to the others in this field. In fact, there’s a good chance Athena doesn’t make the final and little chance she medals. The young women in this race should all run, set prs, try and make the podium. Regardless of how you feel, it should not be on these HS athletes to stage some sort of protest, giving up their chance to run in the state meet that they earned the right to compete in. That would only serve to compound any unfairness to these athletes posed by the circumstances. CIF can change the rules, or not, but the athletes should run in the meet.

Exactly. Lean in
Convince 4 conservative atheltic boys that play baseball/football/basketball to come out to run track and form a super relay team of males identifying as females. Watch them crush the competition and win multiple state medals. Have them form a 4x4 and 4x1 team that wins state.
Honestly 4 untrained atheltic varsity football and basketball players could easily win multiple state titles with little training.
Please, someone in California try and form a team to do this.

I believe your comments in your second paragraph are completely false. Do you have a single poll that supports your theory of massive sports ignorance?

Does coach or SD suspension/firing mean anything to you? If found out, and for sure it would, it would be a huge scandal and even worse than doping, but please give it a try in your state.
Just a book keeping question here - How transgender documented? Is it from high school records or is there a separate process at the beginning of a sports season where someone declares gender?
bumping my original post because wouldn't this make a difference in who is allowed to complete as a girl? Following WADA rules would make the most sense. But it's really unclear how transgender is documented in HS sports.
Exactly. We don't tell schizophrenics that the voices they're hearing are real, nor do we tell transabled people that they should cut off perfectly healthy body parts...it only occurs after a child attends public school - to libs, that's the only time amputating healthy body part(s) is fine

It depends on the state. Some states require the proof of hormone treatment and the blood test results. Some states require a note from a doctor to confirm that the student has gender dysphoria. Other states require nothing.
