Hassan is one of the most obvious dopers in all of sports. Even this sport, with its risible notions, should be able to figure that out.
I’m genuinely interested. Take me through your arguments that Hassan is doping as opposed to her main rivals, let’s say Kipyegon or Gidey, or do you have them all as doping? What happened to Hassan last year? She just decided to take a brief doping holiday?
Sifan Hassan did the unthinkable, win the London Marathon on limited training, right after Ramadan versus a loaded filed, while having to stop in the race.Do...
What a London Marathon! Sifan Hassan battled back from the dead to get an unbelievable win. Does this make her the female GOAT? Kelvin Kiptum put up a performance that would make Eliud Kipchoge blush, with a 59:45 2nd half. C...
On the podcast Rojo was saying how when Hassan beat Kipyegon in 2019, Kipyegon was coming back from a baby but a video viewer noted that Kipyegon PRd in that race and got smoked by Hassan. Since then Faith has gotten faster but Hassan's range is so ridiculous.
Good discussion. I had forgotten about Tigist Assefa. If the uniqueness of Hassan’s range is the basis for claiming that Hassan is the women’s GOAT, then Tigist Assefa and Genzebe Dibaba complicate that argument because they’ve both run sub-2:00 for 800 and faster than Hassan in the marathon. As noted by another poster in this thread, Genzebe has faster PBs than Hassan at 1500, 5K, and marathon.
One new point that I’ll add is Genzebe has the superior head to head record vs Hassan, with a 8-2 record against Hassan in the 1500 + mile. They’re tied 5-5 at 3K and 5K.
Personally, I think range is important but not the only factor in determining the GOAT. Number of championship wins and medals, world records, PBs, excellence across each of the three major surfaces, head to head record versus their competitors, and longevity are all important, too. If we consider all those criteria together, I think Tirunesh Dibaba is the women’s GOAT.

This is a very interesting post to me.
I honestly believe Hassan has more to give at the 1,500m; specifically, she could take down the world record.
Faith has completely dominated her at 1,500m since Hassan beat her in Doha. Both of them have the potential to marginally beat Dibaba's WR.
For me, that Doha world championship 1,500m win was one of the most remarakable pieces of running I have ever seen - starting at the back and building up progressively to run such a fast time was an act of complete domination and a sight to behold.
I liken Hassan to Haile. They are probably both the most ground-breaking male and female distance runners respectively of the last 50 years.

Big difference between sub two and 156... For a woman in the 800...
I would give that she has more championships more medals, but when do we ask against who? Sifan has them against some tmof the most incredible runners of all time. Faith kipyegon Gidey and now against the field in london. There has to be something to say about the level of competition. It's much harder to get a medal than it was in 2004. I think she is the goat, but i she probably needs one or two more olympic golds to prove it (or 4 or 5 world champs golds).

Be that as it may, Faith was still coming back from pregnancy. Of course she PRed, she was chasing Hassan.
Hassan clearly has the best range, but she has a ways to go to match Tirunesh Dibaba’s accomplishments.
Olympic + World Championships: Dibaba 8, Hassan 4
Total Olympic + World Championship medals: Dibaba 12, Hassan 7
World Cross Country Championships: Dibaba 4, Hassan 0
Hassan has surpassed Dibaba in number of world records (4-3) and has a better set of PBs, but she needs more championship wins and medals in my opinion to match Dibaba overall.
Dibaba also deserves more credit for her remarkable longevity. Dibaba medaled on the track at *four* different Olympics, and her world championship medals span from 2003 until 2017. We will see if Hassan can remain great for as long as Dibaba was.
And they are also equal in marathon major wins, both with one
Thing is, Hassan isn't the best at any distance: Faith is better at the 1,500, Gidey is faster at both thee 5,000m and 10,000m and several ladies would beat her in a non-tactical marathon. She was also run out of the medals in Rio 2016 and Eugene 2022.
Also, enough with Letsrun calling Kiptum a doper whist ignoring Hassan's associations with Alberto Salazar and the NOP. She was also flagged in the Fancy Bears' leak. Kiptum's performances are "too good to be true" but Hassan's aren't? Come on!

Unlike many, Hassan actually performed better when she left Salazar (spectacular olympics, 10k world record, world marathon major win, ect). I think she is likely clean, but I'd be surprised by no one at this point.

True. Likewise, there is a big difference between 2:18 and 2:15 for a woman in the marathon.
True, but does anyone really think that 3:50 shape Genzebe was only good for 1:59? HS girls have run that fast. Watch the 2015 WC final where she closes in 1:57.3
I'd say at this point, Hassan and Tirunesh Dibaba are like 1A and 1B. Sifan has the greatest range of accomplishments ever, Dibaba has the greatest total count of accomplishments. If Hassan happens to win the 2024 Olympic Marathon though, I'd put her at solo #1.
