My brother accused me of being like that with women's track and female singers. I've met 4 or 5 female singers. It's projection, he went to jail for sexually assaulting a 16 year old girl after feeding booze to a 14 , 15 and 16 year old girls.
I didn't think they would get as large of a contract as Tuohy but if so, you are correct. I still think Tuohy could get a much larger contract than them. She could get injured and miss out on millions.
I disagree with staying for more NCAA records. Her stock is high, her name is synonymous and she's not injured. At the moment she could negotiate a very good long-term contract. Also she's steadily improving. If she appears to be maxing out on time improvement in college she's going to have less of a maximized room to negotiate a higher long-term contract. She should start negotiating now and express how she's improving for great potential to medal in pro championships.
Tuohy will get way more notoriety from trying to break every college record. 1500 thru 10k... Then becoming a semi elite pro and not being able to even beat the best USA runners for the next 2 to 3 years
...
You are missing the biggest reason she should stay in the NCAA. She can have a shoe deal in the NCAA for $$$ now, due to the new Name Image and Likeness ruling. Before you had to turn pro so you could capitalize and make money before you got washed up, or injured. Now you can make money while in college. Tuohy already has a shoe deal with adidas. Staying in college is a now brainer now. But if it weren't for NIL, she would have totally turned pro to get paid.

I disagree with this .... with how katelyn tuohy is improving .. what if she makes the team next year?
If she goes pro now, her contract will be much smaller than if she makes a US team then signed one after.... the exposure katelyn will get at trials will be more than any distance runner will get, specially when shes fast enough to contend for a spot.. even if she doesnt make the team and finishes 4th or 5th, that still boost her stocks more than any ncaa-related meets
one of her goals is to race the us trials and make it to the 2024 olympics, and if that's her goal, she will work for it
“When I was younger, I would set a goal, set the path for it, and be like, this is how I do it, and I have to do everything right,”she said.
“But it’s okay to change your trajectory and change things along the way based on your progress, setbacks, or whatever it is. The biggest advice I can give is don’t freak out if things don't go your way, stay patient.”

It's going to be a while before she can beat monson and the top 1500 meter runners so
I see her competing in cross-country next year and then indoors and then maybe redshirting outdoors to try to make the us team
Then she would still have another full year, 3 seasons!
Where she could try to break the 1500 m outdoor record... Assuming she gets the 5K outdoor record this year and sets the indoor 5K record next winter...
I mean realistically what could she do for the 2024 Olympics?
And what's she going to do as a pro in short-term?
It would seem that being the best ever at the NCAA would bring a lot more eyeballs than finishing third to other Americans?
Also can team cross country 3peat and then 4peat? Much more excitement and sponsorship interest!!!
notoriety:
the state of being famous or well known for some bad quality or deed
This has been said many times, she is getting a fractiona of what she would get as a pro. She could sign a 10 year deal setting her up for life. She could break her leg tomorrow and never run again and be broke if she stays in college. She could stagnate or digress and get very little.
Mr End you have a point. The great mystery to me is why sponsors have been reluctant to be more aggressive w/ runners in NIL. Bueckers/Fudd in women's NCAA hoops have signed deals that just convert over when they turn pro. Think a 10yr deal w/ 3 nil and 7 traditional pro deal. Tuohy looks like she only has a 1 yr nil, then is a free agent again.
The whole idea in getting Cain, Efraimson, Watson, Syd, Mu, Kessler, Hunter to turn pro early was to take a little risk in order to lock them into deals before someone else did, and before they became the next big thing.
Sponsors can now do the same up front investment, but keep the runners in college until the time is right for move to pro training group. They have not been doing this though. There's only the modest Touhy deal, and now today Hicks. I would think Britton Wilson, Diggs, Anna Hall, Waskom etc would be worth an investment.
If Touhy's deal w/ Adidas was 10yrs and substantial, we would not be talking about 'when she should turn pro?'. The question would only be 'When/if she should move to an altitude based training group?'
