Beamish sits on college kids, waits too long and then barely wins and acts surprised with his mediocre victory. Looking forward to how they hype this on coffee club.
More important than the track every time is the pacemaking. The first lap was OK in the first heat, but then the pacer ratcheted it up getting everyone to run in the mid-27s instead of mid-28s. Pacer then slowed predictably and everyone was out of it running 29+. Second heat was slightly better as it was even at least if slow for anyone but the 2-3 guys right on the pacer.
splits last year from the Chicago Teare/Hocker mile record attempt. First 409 was 59.45 and they finished in 3:50.xx. A nice and slow build is often the best way to run a fast mile.
3:52 winning time in heat 1. Bad pacing screwed any chance at sub 3:50. Can tell guys phoned it in at 1200 realizing it was off the table.
Not sure why local track clubs offer up random people to pace important races. Hardly ever works out. Pacing is actually hard, it’s not something you can just jump in and do on a whim for this type of field.
Did any of you actually watch the race? The pacer did a fine job, 56-low then 57-high for the first two quarters. That’s perfect pacing for a 3:46 attempt. The problem was that when he dropped, Ratcliffe was cooked and they ran a 30-31 from 800-1k. Ratcliffe being out in front like that is really what screwed up the race. Teare also clearly was not ready to run a world record, I’m not sure why it was ever billed as that, but it was stupid.

3:51 with a 26 last lap and you still manage to be disappointed
Not disappointing in general, but in reference to the hype of the AR or WR or HS record going down, the fast BU track, or in comparison to Nuguse running 26 second for 3:47 it's not that impressive. The Washington guys were all great again but not faster than last months blistering performance at their home meet. Teare hasn't found his mojo again yet. Burns can hope on breaking outdoor record now, indoor chance is gone
OAC first again. BTC fourth and dropping fast. Kind of remarkable how the wheels seemed to have come off as soon as Shelby was busted.
I don't know man, OAC (Beamish), and Powell's pros (Gregoreck and Prakel) were pretty weak sauce going into the second heat so they could make things just right. Beamish, Gregorek and Prakel all lack top class racing chops and it shows every time they have to really preform. And no USA indoor doesn't count. Jumping in the college heat to protect their egos rather than racing against BTC guys actually going for it was kind of lame IMO. Racing is the best way to get better. To say OAC first again, well they're usually first in January and Feb, but then they slowly start to fade, so that doesn't say much. I'm sure the OAC mob will jump all over this.

Boler from Delbarton in NJ, ran 4:04.x..his previous best was 4:09.15? I never wanted to say this, and your PR is your PR..but BU is 1.5-2 seconds fast at the mile for almost everyone. There are just way too many examples of guys never running within 2-3 seconds of the BU mark..ever..not in or out or 1500M converted from. There are plenty of examples of guys who have run their BU mark elsewhere or even multiple times..there are way, way more guys who have nothing like it in their portfolio. The shoes are the shoes..everyone wears them now..BU though..is BU alone LOL.

4 UW guys ran faster. than ever .3 did not..1 of those..Greene? was within 1 second or less?
He had the fastest time of the meet over Teare, Wynne, Prakel, and other top 10 American milers. I’d say that’s a good outing! Winning matters.
Beamish won the second heat set up perfectly for college guys and never lead a step until .5 meters to go. Had he actually had the courage to race Teare and Wynne in the first heat, he may not have won. But we'll never know because racing doesn't matter anymore.
