The highest paid college athlete is LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne. It's not even close. She deserves every penny. Good for Katelyn, hope she makes a bundle and keeps improving.
It is a good move. There is a large group of young female runners who 1) know who Katelyn Touhy is, 2) know what Dragonflies are, and 3) have no idea Touhy wears Adidas TYOs.
Dunne is the highest paid female at something over $1 million. Bryce Young had over $3 million a year in NIL deals. I’m laughing at the concept from earlier in the thread that his is about free shoes and warmups. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tuohy is getting over $100k from this. She has the highest name recognition among the key youth demographic of any runner on the planet.
Not the place to complain about this. Its not Katelyn Tuohy's fault she entered college and when the NIL was approved by NCAA. She's also just working hard and she's getting paid for it, and yea it must be nice, but she deserves it.
Wouldn't one huge difference be with NIL deal she gets paid while still being able to stay in school? Seems fairly obvious to me.
I'm talking about her making money and what her responsibilities to promote Adidas would be. Seems like NIL and going pro are pretty similar regarding those 2 things.
These new rules are BS. I had to pass up a bit of money when I was in college to retain my eligibility which could have seriously helped me survive once I graduated. I easily passed up $5,000 plus its pennies now but at the time it could have really helped me not have to rely on family while I was reinventing myself right after school. It also would have prevented me from trashing my body running crazy distances that I was not ready for. I was an 800m/1500m man in college. I immediately won $2,500, $5,000, and then an additional $2,500 in a marathon debut that I was not ready for all just to eat. Plus, the $5,000 I passed up I could have had $15,000 put away so I didn’t have work some stupid job as a bar back and waiting tables for survival. I eventually joined the military because I got sick of the rat race. Now it’s like here keep all the money you get. I might be alone on this, but I think it is bogus because for those of us that did win some pro track races in college and passed up the paychecks might feel like we got ripped off when now money is allowed. Don’t get me wrong I personally feel if you earn it you should keep it I just think it is a kick in the face to those of us that had to pass up our earned jackpots when we earned it fair and square.
Seriously?? "Waaah, it sucked for me so it has to suck for everyone else FOREVER!!" smh

"I was wronged so everyone else should be in the future."
Did I sum it up correctly? And can I get you a tissue?
Keep sucking up to these intitled kids. I am dealing with one right now and am not finding out the exciting news that I get to spend an arm and a leg on the equine bs again. I can careless what you think but I can tell you the moment your creepy behind tried to talk to Tuohy or any other young adult of this generation you will get my insight.

Agree. Contrast Must B Nice with Ed O’Bannon. One brought a class action lawsuit against the NCAA and paved the way for people like Touhy to get these deals; the other posts on anonymous message boards seemingly angry about people like Touhy getting these deals.
Kessler might just be the last mid/distance runner to go pro straight out of high school. Wish he would’ve done a NIL deal for a couple years instead.
NIL was already approved when Kessler graduated
I know. That is why I wish he would’ve done a NIL deal instead. Purely from a development standpoint I don’t think he has gotten much out of being off the back of pro fields so far.
