Put your preferred pronoun as (anything but late for supper) or (oh-wise one) or (your majesty) or something like that. How about (Legion (for we are many)).
We don't know the facts of the case but it is also hard to believe that this was a one time minor event that occurred between a couple of students and the immediate reaction of the school was "title ix" violation. I'll guess that these fine young lads were pains in the buttocks within the school despite mommy's protests and this is how the school dealt with this problem which had likely been ongoing. I don't agree that this would be the way to handle it but I think it is a lot more than the understated headlines of the NY Post would like anyone to believe.
Let me experience be a warning to you all. Coached foe 20+ years at a school. Girl decides she is non-binary and wants to be referred to as "they". In the second person personal pronoun she insists upon being called "they" instead of "you." So if i said to her "You need to go do the long jump." sgh ewnated tShe be told "They need to go do the log jump."

I assume your doctorate had zero to do with the construction of a sentence in English?
Nobody is going to remember pronouns for every person they meet and you can't force them to. You're a man. You're a Mr. Or a sir. Good day, sir.
Intent goes a long way. I’ve forgotten a student’s pronouns before. You apologize for it and try not to do it again. No one is getting negative consequences for slip ups. They are getting negative consequences because they are either actively trying to refer to people by the wrong gender or, when they do slip up, they throw a hissy fit and act like it’s too hard to have empathy and just say “sorry, my bad.”
So if a kid comes to you and says hey this paper isn't an F it's an A you're just gonna give him an A because of "empathy" or because he "really believes" that paper is an A?
Or, just to play this downvote game properly, let's say your delusional Christian politician decides to ban abortion because he "really believes" a fetus is human and has "empathy" for a fetus. What then?
There are hard lines that every individual and society set for themselves. The overwhelming majority do not agree a man is a woman or that a fetus is human. You'd know that if you actually talked with anyone that isn't a brainwashed political sheep.

Hey, you used both "brainwashed" and "sheep". Obviously you are a intellectual heavyweight!
I’m 100% certain the entire story isn’t being told here…charging them with sexual harassment seems over the top, but I was 13 once and know how mean/vulgar kids can be. So, I doubt the bullying was limited to simply saying “he/she” instead of “they.” The kids who are being charged likely deserve some sort of punishment.
All of this boils down to…don’t be a d*ck. Granted, that’s difficult for the average teenager, not to mention the half of the country that felt compelled to throw a fit every time someone asked them to wear a mask over the last two years. Who cares what pronouns someone wants to be called?

Half this country, myself included, doesn’t think it’s healthy to play into peoples mental health delusions.
I don’t tel the homeless guy on the corner muttering to himself that the CIA is after him and I don’t tell boys they are girls.
in other words, I’m on the pro-science side of this issue.

These two things have nothing to do with the topic at hand.
I’m a teacher. Students call me Mr. Leonard and refer to me as he/him since that’s how I identify.
if a kid insisted on calling me Ms. Leonard and calling me by she/her, it would be worthy of some type of discipline. This is essentially what is happening here.
for a student to do this exact same thing to a fellow student is at the very least bullying. It could certainly be seen as sexual harrassment as the victim student is made to feel lesser based on their gender.
I agree with most of this until the last sentence. No doubt discipline them. Detention, suspension, if they keep it up expel them. But criminal charges, if that is actually what is happening, seems a tad much lol.

You are not following the science. Gender fluidity is not a mental health delusion. The American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association agree that gender fluidity and LGBTQ are natural human states, as normal as any one of us.
You couldn’t be more wrong. Just because something might happen naturally doesn’t mean it is healthy. Some people naturally want to cut off a limb, that doesn’t mean we should indulge them. Some people naturally hear voices. That doesn’t mean we should tell them the voices are real. We should instead try and help those with these problems, not feed into them.
