That headline is misleading. This study suggests that social transition leads to higher rates of persistence than a watchful waiting approach. This means that changing a child's name and pronouns, a profound psychosocial intervention, increases the chance that they will take puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.
Instead of improving a person's life, social transition is likely creating iatrogenic illness. This is a type of illness induced by the medical establishment. We've seen this sort of thing before with false memory syndrome. Lots of people went to therapists in the 80s only to have false memories of childhood sexual abuse implanted in their minds. Not suprisingly, these treatments created trauma in patients.
Imagine a parent telling their normal weight daughter that she is chubby during her entire childhood. Would it surprise you if this girl persisted in the belief that she is overweight, despite evidence to the contrary?
