I’m not criticizing his coaching, more so how he goes about it/his personality. He loves the limelight and I generally don’t like people like that. That’s all. Let the kids be the stars.
I don’t doubt he’s doing special things with these kids, but let’s save the “magical” for when these two families are no longer at NP.
Not sure about a magical recipe and yes he does come out as if he's trying to steal the spotlight. As for his training? You need to be an idiot to screw up 6 to 8 8 graders that can run under 4:40s in the 1600 meters before entering high school.
I don't know if I really agree with people saying Brosnan is trying to steal the spotlight. For starters, he's their coach, and people certainly want to hear him talk about what he's doing and what he thinks makes NP special. I've never heard/seen him do anything that looks like he's really trying to steal the spotlight from the kids. If anyone wants to link a video of him cutting off his athletes in an interview or something to talk about himself, feel free to link it, but as far as I've seen, he stays in his lane of coach/mentor, and lets the kids handle themselves.
There are a million interviews with him in the past several years. I guess it’s subjective and up to you if he seems humble and gracious or takes the credit for himself and is full of BS.
I guess it is subjective as to whether you think he's humble or takes the credit for himself and is full of BS, but if you think the latter, I don't think it's due to how he actually acts. After their state meet, Brosnan said he was happy they gave 100%, and he was proud of them. Before RunningLane, he said he thought they could average low 14:20s, “And I’ll say it: we’re going to try to go 1-2-3-4 out there.” They ended up going 1-2-3-6 and averaging 14:14. That doesn't sound unhumble to me, nor was his prediction full of BS. He said he was proud of his team for giving it their all, and gave an accurate prediction.
He also said he sat down and asked the team what they wanted to do when NXN got cancelled, and they said they wanted to do RL instead of FootLocker. He's said he's tried to get the kids to remove their mental barriers, and said "They've done a great job at really accepting it." That sounds like he's giving credit to himself and the athletes. Nothing wrong with that. His athletes have nothing bad to say about him, and I can't find any evidence that he has ever taken credit for one of his athletes races, outside of things that are his job to do.
The only thing that I can think of that could be close to "full of BS" would be that 9x All American or whatever claim he made years ago. My guess would be that as a new coach, he was just trying to pad his resume. Not great, but afaik he hasn't said it in years and has let the performances from the team speak for his coaching ability.
It looks to me like he doesn't take the credit from his athlete's performances, nor is he full of BS. The most credit he takes is essentially saying "I get my kids to believe in themselves, individualize their workouts, and keep them motivated." I can't imagine listening to a coach say "My kids are running so fast because I got them to believe in themselves" and coming away with the opinion that that coach is full of BS and taking the credit for themselves. If you have any evidence of Brosnan saying that an athlete's performance was all because of him though, feel free to share it.
dude they just took 30+ seconds off the national record, please consider going outside
Dude, they and their fan bois were marching around telling everyone they were going to all break 4. less talk and lot more humility would go a long way. if you’re going to ask for the spotlight, expect some crap when you don’t deliver.
American Fork ran 16:41 with a 4:26 leg.
That and their coach stays in Air Bnb's with them. Anyone else find this a bit .... boundary crossing?
