Hoka Rincon 2. Not a fan of the Thicc Bois
Yeah I had to go bigger here but even then this version didn’t feel like previous versions. I was always slower when I used this versus other shoes.
2021 hasn’t been a great year running shoe year for me. I started off by buying the ASICS Tartheredge, which considering I only paid 39€ for it, isn’t so bad. 208g for such a low stack height is embarrassing, while the midsole offers little in terms of cushioning or energy return. The only redeeming qualities of the shoe are it’s price and breathable though old school upper, which is why I continue wearing it during the approach to crags or belaying. A shoe I really don’t give a sh1t about, but which is ultimately ok.
A shoe that absolutely fell through my expectations was the Nike Peg Turbo 2. It was cheap and my size, so I bought it. Coming from a pair of beat up Peg 36s, the midsole felt great, but the upper was any good. Too narrow, but fine with thin socks. Now the heel: why anyone insist on such a minimalist, garbage construction is beyond me. Nike could have added the same foam pad from the Next% and it would have been great. To make matters worse, the upper ripped inside AND outside on BOTH shoes after only about 15 runs, completely ruining the foothold. Maybe I got a defective pair, but I’ve never had a shoe rip like that, not even my spikes. The Peg Turbo 2 joins the likes of the NB 1080v10, Hoka Clifton 1, Carbon X as some of my worst ever shoes.
The Novablast 2 has worked out great so far. I love midsole and upper, but the outsole is a letdown as it can’t be used to wet dirt paths (no lugs whatsoevr).
I think the problem is with the Novablast 1. While the shoe felt lighter and bouncier than the Novablast 2, the upper is trash. Far too sloppy fitting

Didn’t finish writing the post.
The upper is too sloppy and flimsy, while the thin laces dug into my foot. I wore thicker socks to try and improve the fit to no avail, and ended up returning the shoes after running a grand total of 200m on the street.
