Anyway, being a fan of the sport, I went and bought the shoes the moment they came out. I wrote a review. In it I tracked heart rate across various paces and compared real vs perceived effort. I compared my evidence to official studies. I talked about the history of shoes and the trends that have defined them. It's not a great article but it's encompassing. And it was fun to do. IMO, this is what you do when you love a sport, rather than shouting at the clouds. You guys have significant resources and pull in the industry-- you might have been able to pull together your own study. Little legitimacy certainly wouldn't hurt your image!
