Liquori ran 13:15 back in 1977 when the world record was 13:12, and silver at World Cup final, precursor to World Championship. He was 28 at the time but they retired younger back then.

I think it’s pretty obvious having seen the Olympics and Bowerman Mile that Centro’s days of being a medal threat in the 1500 are over. He’s had one of the best 1500 careers of all time (two Worlds medals, Olympic gold and 4th at the 2012 games behind Makhloufi and Iguider, likely dopers), but if championship races are being won in sub 3:30, he’s just not going to be in the hunt. I’d assume he at least wants to hold on through 2022 to compete at worlds in Eugene. Bumping up to 5k has to be the move right? He ran 13 flat in 2019, presumably with his training geared more towards the 15. What are the chances he could have a second act as a 5k runner similar to Lagat? He was quite a good 2 miler in high school, and if he can stick around 3:50-51 fitness in the mile, he should be right there in a global 5k when you need to close in 1:55 to medal. I hope he can keep the fire burning and make a legit attempt to train for the 5k.
Is this the most rational post ever made on Letsrun?

Dont count him out yet. The guy just ran a 349 and simply had a couple of ill timed bad days. Bowerman mile was going to be quick b/c everyone was expecting Cheruiyot to go hard to make up for Olympics and re-establish who is the Sheriff in town. There will be plenty of tactical races, as normal and thats Centro’s wheelhouse. No doubt he’s going to have to up the game though, but I still think he has it in him.
I read he's running the Yakima Mile next weekend.

Agreed. He still has wheels.
It still might be worth his time to try a more strength based approach and see how it works. He ran 13 flat for 5k two years ago.
Maybe he should focus on trying to make the world cross team, a goal that Joe Klecker has made for himself.
If you look at Klecker’s training, I don’t see anything he does that Centro can’t do. If it works out for him, great, then maybe try some 5ks/10ks after that. If it doesn’t, then he’ll be in shape for a summer of racing 1500s

This. After his season is done and he takes some time to regroup it will be, what, October? After a long summer/fall of racing? Use the winter get a base and get strong, and see if he can qualify for World XC. Whether he does or doesn't qualify, he'll be strong and ready to race on the track, no matter the distance

Centro is a strange cat.... runs 3:49 solo but struggles with actual race tactics...while other times is absolutely opportunistic... just a tough guy to get a read on
