If you lie you have something to hide
Has Jacobs described in any particular detail how he severed ties with Spazzini after hearing of the nutritionist's alleged involvement with PEDs?
It's one thing to say he has no contact with Spazzini ("because from the very first moment we heard about this thing that happened, we stopped working with him"), but has he practically severed those ties?
Many athletes have contractual agreements with their team of therapists, physiologists, clinical and performance nutritionists and others within their entourage.
When Jacobs severed all ties with Spazzini, did he null and void any contracts in place between them?
Surely Spazzini, who has gloated on social media following his protege's successes, wants in on the slice of endorsement contracts and bonuses that comes handsomely packaged with Jacobs being crowned the fastest man in the world (as well as setting both national and European records in the 100m) as well as carrying Team Italia on his back in the 4x100. After Jacobs won gold, we all saw what Spazzini's firm posted on instagram.
I can't see Spazzini saying, "No, that's OK, I increased your muslce mass by 4kg and decreased your fat mass by 4% in the past year using my one and only Hybrid method, so I'm very happy that I helped you get where you were up until March" as he didn't do it for charity -- he did it for an investment and he'll be looking for a return on that investment in Jacobs; for Spazinni, it's all about what Jacobs could potentially owe him from the two Tokyo exploits, and it's probably a lot greater sum than pocket change. He knows Jacobs' 'worth' increased post Tokyo.
Why would Jacobs owe him anything? They most likely entered into a contract. Italian law contains a general clause on good faith under § 1175 of the Italian Civil Code (the parties shall perform in good faith the obligations set out under a contract. This results, among others, in duties of: (i) disclosure; (ii) cooperation; and (iii) protection of the other party’s rights and goods.
It goes without saying that an Olympic hopeful wouldn't NOT research his support team, especially the person closest to ensuring that he's fed and recovers well.
With Spazzini stating "We had a goal and together we managed to make it a reality", clearly he's not seeing this relationship as closed. The cease and desist of tarnishing the Italian's image seems to not have made it to his desk.
