I think he's a complete jerk and should be DQ'd, but even for me a lifetime ban is too harsh.
A 3 months suspension I think would be in order and some kind of fine if they have that kind of authority.

Lifetime ban for knocking over water bottles. That punishment seems too harsh. He did a bad thing and there should be some kind of sanction but a lifetime ban is disproportionate.
His reputation has already been damaged and that in itself is a type of punishment which could stick with him for a long time if not permanently.
I don’t think he reflected on the consequences that his act has brought on him.
If you see him on Instagram with his small son you will feel some compassion.
I think your reaction was based on emotion.
We need to think rationally about this.
When his son grows up he will ask his daddy “why did you do that? “
I feel the pain for this guy, Amdouni, even though he made a mistake.
We are human, we are fallible, we make mistakes.
Let’s move on.

Yeah a sociopath would parade their kids out to deflect criticism because idiots fall for such things. Like I’m going to look this animal up on social media lol.
I guess rage is an emotion, yeah.
Yes, Let's also give him a medal. I'm sure his behavior can be blamed on how he was raised. It is not his fault he is a jack ass. He should surely be rewarded for is actions.

LOL You think his kid will ask him that some day?? And you think the guy will say something like "Well son, that was a big mistake and you shouldn't do things like that."?? Maybe if he comes out in the next day or two and admits guilt and acts contrite I might agree but guys who do things like this are rarely truly contrite and they tend to pass their own idea of right/wrong on to their kids. You can be as sympathetic as you want but I'll save my sympathy for people who deserve it.
That said, a lifetime ban is excessive. I'd favor a year since 3 months or 6 months probably won't even interrupt his racing schedule following this race.
Whether it was accidental or not, which rules did it break?

Right?
The overwhelming majority of uncoordinated dufus runners can pull off a drink pick-up at race pace. It takes malice to knock over every bottle in the row… and coordination to yoink the very last one.
He can play it off like it was some Michael J. Fox moment all he wants. You fools can believe him. You can even try to gaslight the rest of us. It couldn’t be more clear he’s a POS and I hope he faces repercussions in all manners possible.

it doesn't make much sense because the bottles in the second row are left alone. in addition to this, there's another table nearby, so it doesn't make sense to wipe it out.
Exactly, why are you the only one that mentioned the 2nd row of bottles? Yes, not as easy to grab as the first row, but still a pretty weak plan if it's done on purpose.
Anyhow, if this was done on purpose it would make more sense to grab a bottle first and then use it to knock the others off rather than hope to be able to grab the last standing bottle at full speed.
He was very clumsy and inconsiderate for sure but he clearly takes his eyes away from the table (more than once) as he reaches out for the bottles on the video and that would explain why he missed so many. Probably has he realized he was nearing the end of the table he paid more attention and finally was able to grab the last one. Pretty risky move either way.
He probably didn't think much of it because of the second row of bottles next to it.
Still, his lack of consideration for the other contestants directly behind him is pretty obvious considering the outside heat.
Peace

Agree. I see him reach out a few times and fail.
I would encourage anyone to set up a table and try to grab a water bottle off it at 12 miles per hour. That’s already not as trivial as people claim in my opinion. Then try with sweat dripping down your eyes while tired in hot weather. Then try it in traffic having to reach across. Much stranger things have happened than somebody messing that up once in a race.

He looks at the row of bottles the ENTIRE time. At one point he starts to look away but never does. He certainly doesn't look away "more than once."

The exact point is that a delirious, uncoordinated runner could knock off maybe half the bottles with them flying all over, but the way he racked ALL of them up perfectly without missing AND deftly grabbed the final one defies any such possibility. Try setting up a table and pulling that off at 5 min pace first time without practice...not happening!

This is 100%, completely unintentional.
They are running in 30° heat with high humidity, the guys hands are probably completely drenched with sweat, the bottles probably have condensation on them, running 3 minute k's, 30k into the race.
The first bottle he tries to grab probably gets knocked out of his hand because he hit the second bottle in the row, he then tries to grab another bottle, causing the same thing to happen down the whole table. The last bottle that he grabs isn't knocked out of his hand, because there is no other bottle to knock it out of his hand. Or maybe he was being more careful on the last bottle. At worst, this is a slightly clumsy move.
There are more water tables that all of the other athletes behind him grab a bottle off of only a few seconds down the road. He has moved well out of the way of the tables by this point, allowing the other athletes to grab water. If he was intentionally preventing people from getting water, why would he grab a bottle from the first table? This event benefitted him 0%, and negatively impacted the other athletes 0%.
Everyone here is making it seem like he slapped the bottles off of the first table, and proceeded to do that at every table for the rest of the race.
If you watch a higher quality recording of this event (plus all of the above), it is pretty easy to see that this is unintentional.
I completely agree. Running in a group, super hot, very fast, he isn’t close to the table. We have all seen runners in pro marathons not managing to pick up bottles.
Here is the proof
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=saunzCkbugUStop the damn shaming
Ok, I have to admit, after watching the video above that I rushed to judgement. His hand is clearly opening and closing trying to grab bottles. He’s not just smacking them off the table.

I would have to disagree with the first 2 sentenced and it is hard to tell if he looked away more than once or not but that's not that different once is enough at that speed.
Either way , still a risky plan to take the chance at grabbing the last bottle, at that speed in the middle of traffic.
Yet we still have the 2nd row of bottles in plain sight.... so many risks for so little potential rewards. If it was practiced it surely wasn't well planned out!
What was his medal again? ...
Who knows maybe you're right. That is a possibility; but you being totally wrong about his true intention is also a possibility and I find it sad that in today's world so many are quick to ASSUME the worse even if doesn't make much sense.
Peace.
