I was also curious and never saw any data to back up their 400-mile claims. I personally think it was a (possibly racist) reaction to what was happening in the 800 at that time. I think the rule is a good one that should be extended to all the women's events.
Data show the biggest advantage in 400, 800, pole vault and hammer throw, but NOT in 1500/mile. PV and HT are not "restricted" events because currently there is no world class athlete with hyperandrogenism in those events. CAS is not a scientific institution and their decision is not based on scientific findings. From their standpoint, there is no reason to restrict PV or HT because there is no obvious evidence that someone else's interests are hurt.
In other words, CAS is reactive, and they only restricted testosterone in intersex athletes in events in which they were currently competing.
They should have been proactive, and thought a little ahead, and restricted testosterone in intersex athletes in all events.
It seems like for whatever reason the sweet spot events right now for the Hyperandrogenism athletes is the 400m and 800m races.
Maybe there are enough qualifying athletes in those events to offer one or both as a 3rd category at the championship meets for a finals only competition. And if more than enough, includes rounds for one or both events. There needs to be more inclusion rather than exclusion.

Please elaborate I honestly don't understand you
If you're intersex you're born that way physically. The testosterone limit is 5 nmol/L
If you're transgender you're born one sex and change to another (I understand the argument that they're born that way mentally, but physically they are fully in the body of a man). The testosterone limit there is 10 nmol/L.
It seems to me that they have it backwards. If you are intersex you actually have to do MORE to prove yourself a woman than if you have declared yourself a woman after declaring yourself a man previously.

Don’t be so dense. Banning would mean these athletes did something explicit and/or illegal. The truth is, the spectrum of what qualifies as female is so broad it’s difficult to make a call without being called out as a bigot or ignorant. Transgender females (M to F) shouldn’t be allowed to compete with women. DSD athletes, on the other hand, should just be given a Paralympic category of their own.
The paralympics are not the olympics but I see what you mean. DSD can't compete with women but they can compete among themselves I guess
You have a very good point

People need to learn that if a teenage woman comes out of no where and becomes the best in the world within a few months, then they are probably intersex.
Jelimo, Semenya, Mboma, etc. And I'm sure it will happen again in the future.
But people shouldn't get all exited about "They are going to break all the crazy records from the 1980s" when what is most likely going to happen is that they soon won't be allowed to compete without lowering their testosterone.
i dont care if shes actually a dude on super roids just explain her arm carriage to me and she can compete aginst middle school girls for all i care

I don't think that there is an good explanation for Mboma's arm carriage. That is pretty odd.
How the f many people are walking around with a vag and little balls?
Seems way more common than one would think

OK but to many people on this planet Athing Mu has come out of nowhere in the sense that it is probably mostly U.S. fans that have been aware of her before this year. People do not “ need to learn” what you insist they learn.

Seems like it.
i think mboma looks as femenine as any of her competitors, and to me she doesnt look like shes intersex.unfortunatly it was her 48.54 that gave her away.if she and beatrice masilingi had run 51.5's they would have gone to the olympics and their performances, and genders wouldnt have been questioned.the mistake they made was that they ran too fast.if theyd have held back,no one would be the wiser.

Doctors say between 1 out of 10,000 to 1 out of 20,000 people are intersex. With a worldwide population of over 7 billion people, that's hundreds of thousands of intersex people.

Athing Mu has been a star runner for SEVERAL YEARS.
Mboma went from mediocre runner to number 1 in the world in a FEW MONTHS.
Big Difference!

Not the exact thing but Bud Winter taught about a lower, reaching out , arm carriage over the higher pumping action that we see.

My understanding is that World Athletics requires female entrants to the World Championships and the Olympics to have testosterone testing.
Could they have stayed as local runners running 51.5 in local events in their own country without anyone knowing they are intersex? Probably.

Mboma is allegedly 18. Why would she have been a star for SEVERAL YEARS?

I am going to delete the other thread on this topic. To all of thsoe who said it was unconscionable that we were allowing people to discuss what was going on, I don't expect to receive an apology.
Yes it was a sensitive issue. But it also was a very important one just weeks out before the Olympics.
What happened yesterday had never remotely been seen before by an 18-year old woman. If you didn't wonder what was going on - hypernadrogenism, doping or the greatest phenom in history by a long shot - then you aren't a true student of the sport.
Is it so much crazier than Athing Mu, Sydney McLaughlin, or Mary Decker?
I think it's important to talk about but I don't see a need for comments that don't have even a modicum of respect for her as an individual, it's really disgusting. We don't even know if she's an intersex athlete.
It’s unfortunate for Mu, she should have the 400m U20 record with all things being considered. Three questionable athletes ahead of her and nothing to be done about it.
