How can anyone be dumbfounded by the strong support for Palestine ?
The entire 2 million people of Gaza are either displaced, having their home or neighbor home bombed to the ground, or killed.
Look at any map of what's happening in Gaza, there's literally zero untouched zone.
What the hell should people think ?
What happened during October 7 doesn't mean the way the IDF is responding is automatically right.
Support for "Palestine" in the US and western Europe is hypocritical and ignorant of history.
For almost 80 years now, the citizens of the US and western Europe have lived in the peace hard-earned by winning WWII. That war was won not because God was on our side, or because John Wayne was a more valiant soldier than his enemies, or because the Allies were merciful to enemy civilians, etc. It was won because the US and Royal Air Forces indiscriminately bombed cities in Germany and Japan until those societies lost the will to resist. This despite not a single German or Japanese soldier ever setting foot in the US or Britain proper, let alone murdering, torturing, raping, or taking hostage any citizenry thereof.
Israel needs to be allowed to win their war. Whatever it takes. Hamas can have no role in Gaza when this is over.
Should US taxpayers who disagree with Israel's mass killings have to foot their war bill? Would you agree that the world is very different than it was in the 1940s? Does "whatever it takes" include genocide in your view?

Hamas is the government of the Gaza Strip
Hamas declared war on Israel and in a sneak attack, breaking a cease-fire, killed, raped, wounded, kidnapped thousands of civilians. And then said they would do it again and again.
I feel bad for the suffering Gazans of course, but in the real world countries will not sit back and take it when their civilians are slaughtered, raped, kidnapped by the government of a neighboring nation. War is hell but this is how war works. When war is declared there is fighting that causes great suffering.
This kind of suffering is how wars are prevented in the future. Neighboring governments now know they should not attack Israel. This is how civilization is preserved - it's ugly and horrible but this is how you do it.
I'll have to continue disagreeing with your last few sentences. Israel is not separated from its enemies by ocean and vast lands. I'm pretty sure the mass killing and destruction of Arabs, most who have nothing to do with Hamas' attacks, will NOT make Israel safer. And no, that is not how civilizations are preserved. They are preserved by improving people's lives enough that they don't want to risk losing that. Refer to pretty much all of europe since WW2. Palestinians literally have nothing to lose now... thousands of new jihadists are being born from this mess. Is ok for the IDF to make new terrorists and then be forced to wipe them out in the name of "preserving civilization"? Sounds like a great justification for genocide.
Slightly off topic , but another famous black scholar was caught plagiarizing, Martin Luther King. It has been admitted that he blatantly plagiarized (though this was brought up decades after his death), and because of his contributions to society and the time he was in, his plagiarism was deemed excusable. Claudine Gay, being a PhD and researcher in a useless and biased field in the 21st century, was not spared the same fate.
The way I see it, the African American/ black community should take this as an opportunity to learn from this, and not to engage in a petty and whining paragraphs and complaining on Twitter and other social media about black professional women being supposedly attacked and mistreated in academia and other high positions of power. There are a few things to learn from this , do not insult white Jews. Do not promote blatant antisemitism. It is ok to keep insulting other ethnicities of white people, just watch out for the Ashkenazi and Sephardi Jews. Lastly, do not plagiarize full paragraphs from papers in an age where submissions and algorithms like turnitin can catch it in seconds through their database.

Because Ackmans wife did this? That justifies Gay the lead educator of the lead Academic School in the World maybe?,
That even sounds stupid
It does not justify it at all, but it calls into question if the real issue was plagiarism or if that was just a pretext.
It will be interesting to see if the sleuths that uncovered the plagiarism start looking at all university president dissertations. I wonder if these guys do it as a hobby or if they are cut checks from Ackman and Adelson for their fascinating research
Thee was considerable pushback against Claudine Gay when she was announced as the next Harvard president because of her soft academic achievements, long before questions about anti-Semitism and free speech burst into flames last October.

Then the plagiarism should have been brought up at that time. In the grand scheme of things the president of Harvard is unimportant.
What is important is that a foreign nation is using covert influence ops (Adelson’s Project Butterfly) on American higher ed institutions and getting away with it. The American public should be outraged and all those involved need to be charged under FARA.
Then should step down as President of Harvard immediately.
So, this is what is termed a strawman argument. Ackman NEVER accused Gay of plagerism; other people did. Ackman rightfully called out Gay for not condemning calls for violence against Jews, rightfully so, in violation of the Harvard Code of Conduct.
Her comments were NOT antiemetic. Criticism of Jews, zionists, and Israel is legitimate. As an academic she is weak as phuck, but with hiring being done solely based on raising an organization’s DEI / ESG score, this is to be expected. Do people honestly think she was not vetted before she was hired? Harvard knew she was a plagiarist with a nothing “PhD” long ago and did nothing. Therefore, she should not be fired. This simply exposes Harvard for what it is.

Correct, Harvard folded to Stefanik, Ackman and other wealthy donors.

You really think it is okay for Harvard to have an undeniable plagiarist leading its institution?

As more and more organizations fill top spots based on race, gender, disability, etc. it’s only natural that the bar be lowered. How large is the pool of black women in America qualified to be a university president? I bet it is less than 1% of all suitable candidates. What happens when they all want to hire from this very tiny pool of qualified people? They end up having to hire very substandard people.
This kind of hiring undermines credibility. When I see a black or woman in a historically white male role my initial thought is they must be a diversity hire, ie. unqualified for the job.
Then should step down as President of Harvard immediately.

Where in the Harvard College Student Handbook does it say students are not allowed to call out Israel for war crimes? What you, Ackman, and the dumb half of congress don’t understand is that Israel isn’t special and that calling out Israel for its actions is not antisemitism. Gay rightfully defended students’ right to free speech - something that many oppose because they disagree with that speech. In fact, any statement not condemning Israel’s actions and violence against Palestinians is just as much in violation of the “Harvard Code of Conduct” as calls for violence against Jews.
But, either way, MIT should revoke Ackman’s wife’s degree.

honestly, could Palestinians hate Israelis any more than they did before the war? These are not Westerners...Palestinians are pointedly part of a different sort of culture. From their childhood they are taught by their religion, schools and politicians to hate Jews and celebrate when Jews suffer and die at the hands of Muslims.
That mindset is stuck in the minds of Palestinians, same as m'aga isn't interested one bit in anyone but Trump as their leader. Not going to change, can't change. Baked in the pudding.
And anyway, there are recent relevant examples countering your claim. The US recently crushed Afghanistan and Iraq, committed multiple atrocities against citizens of those nations...and there has been practically zero terrorism from those countries since. By your logic we would have unleashed a torrent of Afghan and Iraqi terrorists, out to kill Americans. Not so.

I think it's OK for Harvard to make that decision without external meddling from politicians and billionaires. As for the plagiarism itself I think it depends on how extensive it was and intention. I have to dig in when I have more time, but it appears much of what the activist sleuths found are more technical errors than blatant stealing of others work. I also don't know if Harvard's board has an ultra strict policy for this stuff that automatically disqualifies a candidate/president. If they do then dismissal is fair game. I'm very disappointed that instead of firing her and citing thr reason they forced her to resign, effectively scapegoating.

And you just had to bring Trump into the conversation! LOL.

This is a bit far-fetched scenario, but if University A elected David Duke as its president and it was proved he plagiarized on his Ph. D, you would allow University A to make the decision to fire or not fire him without outside influence?
