But that “number 1” doesn't have a great track record at Woodward. Walked in at last years state meet and stopped with less than a mile to go at Clovis invite this year. So good chance Buchanan doesn’t beat ventura “easily”.
It is a flat course but the footing is a little crazy on parts of the course, sand, rocks, grass and shot gun casings everywhere you step. Fastest girls time I could find was in 2019 which was 16:24 by Corie Smith who was a senior at that time.

Any predictions/upsets/injuries/dark horses as CIF starts in earnest tomorrow with CIF SS prelims? Not much conversation going on! Then also championships in many of the sections this weekend - CCS, SJS, San Diego, etc.
Is Great Oak’s Brown still sidelined or will he be able to make it to post-season?
Does Oakdale have an injured runner or was that just a lame rumor?
Does Ventura have everyone back on the boys side? Did Sadie just sit out league finals?
Is Pretre/Menlo actually out as mentioned above or another silly speculation comment?

Top team predictions from State for NXN?
Top 5 boys/girls to make NXN outside of teams?
Don't think prelims will answer much. Even in SS which is super tough, the top teams can basically tempo the course (and in big schools like GO case, just run subs or something) because of how many bad teams are funneled into prelim heats from weak leagues.
CIF finals next week will be the time we will know the big answers and roughly what rosters are going into state.

SS finals is one of my favorite race days of the year, but the forecast is for some rain, though not heavy, on Weds, Thurs and Fri, and clear on Saturday. How much rain can the standard Mt Sac course handle before they have to run the rain course? Isn't the rain course not only flatter, but shorter as well?

They only use the rain course if there has been torrential rain that make the course soggy. Or heavy rain the day of the meet.
Michael Pritsky ran 16:05 at Woodward as a freshman last season so if he can match that before the end of this season, that'd be a big help, for sure!
Also, I have to say I was completely sleeping on Clovis East. I expected Spradling to win overall (although I was worried he was injured with some of the results he put out after Woodbridge) but didn't think they'd be so close to Buchanan even with the field being so condensed.
TRAC is always on the 5k course. Coach Weaver generally does a great job of getting his kids to peak around this time of year so big PRs (for the boys, anyway) are never unexpected as far as I'm concerned.

Are the girls at their peak? if so that is worrisome because they are much slower this year. Hopefully they are better sharpened in 2 weeks.
