A lot of posts on here have been reported as "factually incorrect" but we have not deleted them as we don't follow the CA HS scene and don't know what is factually incorrect. If you want to email us about something you know to be factually incorrect, please do so at letsrun@letsrun.com.
I know that there are several CA elite girls that are going the private coaching route. I don't blame them, there are very few HS coaches that can get an athlete to that level. Our local coaching staff prefers to have all of the runners be the same. No front runners. Great for the team scoring but doesn't help individual runners at all. Many HS coaches do not care about the individual reaching their potential, they care about the team winning. An elite runner with a private coach can excel as an individual and help the team-WIN WIN
I mean who do people think got you into running in the first place? save the private specialized coaching for college
You don't need a private coach in college. That coach recruited you and wants you to excel and become something amazing as an individual. I saw a Charlie Hicks say before the NCAA finals last year and he said something like "our culture is to go out and win it individually because that helps the team". HS coaches do not see it this way. With every other HS sport is acceptable and even encouraged to have a private coach. Running needs to catch up.
Yes and they’ll have a magnificent 7. Or at least 6 studs.
FastHorse, Grossman, Costa, Hammel, DeGeorge, Sloan, and their 7th man Harris just a little far back.
But they won’t be a 5-man team anymore this year if DeGeorge is back.
Ventura has drama. The old coach left because Sadie Engelhardt has a private coach. This is the Dad of her Boyfriend. He doesn’t really know what he’s doing, but Sadie is fast because she’s so talented and everyone can’t stand the private coach. The new Ventura HS coach is now getting annoyed at Sadie’s coach because he’s very obsessed and not liked among all the parents or athletes. Sadie’s private coach (Matt Hammel) tried to get the HS job at Ventura, but the school didn’t hire him because of all the complaints they got from other parents and kids.
DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA
Well if Ventura had so much drama, how did their girls team do so well at Clovis?
Second place at a big meet like Clovis is very good
Here is an updated list of all the California teams I could find with a 5 man returning team with a speed rating average of at least 160.

Woodbridge was the biggest surprise, and they don't even have a junior.

You might see a discrepancy. Aiden Zavala's score of 171 came from Mt Sac, in a race Tully didn't speed rate, but which I computed using the scale from the other Saturday races. 15:00 was 185.0. Every 3 seconds over that is minus 1 point, so 15:41.0 computes to 171.3, rounded down to 171. The 169.80 is just a left over from his highest printed Tully score. I do for many of the races, and yes, I spend way too much time on this. I think I am pretty much done for the year with rankings. We are close to the end so that all that remains is to run the big races.
Shea Volkmer continues to shine, running 10:29 for the 3200. Another girl who merits watching is Anna Salter of Crystal Springs Uplands. The sophomore went 10:50, very good. Compares favorably to Olivia Williams' 10:46.
