No disrespect to Brody, but Liam is in a different league...
Liam was 5th last year at state. Brody was 53rd.
Liam was 18th at NXR Midwest. Brody was 99th.
Brody: 4:32/9:37/15:46
Liam: 4:18/9:18/15:08
And... Brody reportedly was out due to ankle issues/injury.
And most recently... OCC Central at Newark:
Liam 15:32 (2nd)
Brody 16:12 (7th)
Bottom line? Coffman will roll Davidson, even with Brody.
I’m pretty sure Brody ran around 9:18 in Indoor, don’t know what was going on in outdoor, his times don’t match up. Also, if he didn’t run at Districts due to injury, why would his OCC time (most recent race before injury) be taken? He could’ve injured himself during that race.Use the time he ran when he was healthy.
Also isn’t Shaughnessy’s time on the Berlin course? He hasn’t come close to touching that anywhere else.
I’m well aware I am in the minority here, but I enjoy the Troy course. The atmosphere is electric and it’s very easy to spectate.
I agree that it has a good atmosphere but I don’t think a lot of runners like it. It’s easy to spectate and it does get a bit louder once they run up over the levee. When they’re down on the plain they seem pretty far away. Good place to tailgate also if you’re into that.
Brody Boyd has only ran 9:37 indoor by looking at athletic.net and Milesplit, and Shaughnessy has run in the 15:30s multiple times. Boyd has yet to even reach the 15:30s, much less be somewhat consistent there. Boyd is very good, but Shaughnessy is just better.
What is the Troy course like? Never been there..I feel the same with Boardman..the course at Boardman is not necessarily the issue, but rather having 24 teams + individual qualifiers, on a very narrow and tight turn course (luckily this year there is no rain or mud in the forecast) is the issue. I think if there were 16-18 teams at Boardman Regionals it would be a lot better as it is very spectator friendly and the course is not super fast (I think with its rolling hills, tight turns and narrowness) allows for a tactically sound race and is not fast, but as mentioned its just way too chaotic for a 24 Team regional Meet. (Tiffin has 7 teams and is a course that hosts a meet with more teams than the Boardman region)
Boardman is sort of legendary, no? The slowest times are usually out of that region because of the course. If it moved from Boardman where would it go? Would Malone be good? Walsh has a course across the street, right? What about Silver Creek Metro in Akron? The NCAA regionals are supposedly going to be there next year.
The Boardman Regional was supposedly headed towards GlenOak this summer, but nothing came of that rumor. GlenOak was the host of the NEO Region when rain for both the Boardman invitational and their conference meet left the course unrunnable in 2008. The course frequently has issues with mud, as water flows downhill out of their parking lots at the mile and mile and a half marks and right onto the course.
As for other sites... Construction has put Malone in a place where they no longer have the space to host a Regional-style start (24 teams for the Div. 1 girls, for example), and part of their course - with athletes passing going both directions - is less than 30 feet wide. Additions and concrete just outside of the Walsh Stadium would make the first 200 or so meters from their start difficult in a Regional. Silver Creek's issue (as it is with many NCAA championship and Regional sites) is parking: there isn't much, and the area doesn't lend itself to being 'creative' when you are talking the number of cars/buses a regional involves. Parking (and the park service) took Goodyear out of the picture some years ago. Past Regional sites (LCCC and Edgewater Park) and district sites (KSU Trumbull, Medina, and Strongsville), as all meets do, have their unique issues, not the least of which is a desire on the part of a school/group to host, Etc.
Also Goodyear Metro. That is one of the best courses up that way.
The problems with the metro parks might be the parking.
I think as a course, Boardman is great..it is just how many teams/runners compete on it at a Regional Meet (24 teams) that just makes it very chaotic, especially when it indeed is muddy, wet, etc, since it is so narrow and full of tight turns. I think 16-18 teams is more ideal as I know XC is supposed to be difficult and not smooth. This year will be the first time in my X amount of years as a spectator as Boardman Regionals that it will not be muddy, rainy, wet, and cold, so it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds tomorrow!
I think the main things to look for tomorrow are how the Central teams sort themselves out and how the Southwest teams look behind Mason. Although past history shows not to read too much into the regional results, lots of examples of teams under/overperforming their regional performance at the state meet with Coffman the latest example last year.
Bottom line? Coffman will roll Davidson, even with Brody.

Update... the point is moot. Boyd isn't entered for tomorrow's regional meet. He must still be battling ankle issues. HD may not qualify as a team for the 1st time in years...
Byod didn't race at districts, so his name isn't going to be in the regional program. They can easily add him to the roster at the clerk table tomorrow.
