No Ventura in the boys top 5 but I think they can be up there if they tighten up the 2-5 pack
I didn't see these ones here anywhere yet. State team rankings by division.
Continuing the Trey Caldwell discourse, he won the Mt SAC D1&2 individual sweepstakes race Saturday morning. He ran 14:49, besting Jason Parra (14:58).
As a comparison, Emmanuel Perez went 14:38 Friday afternoon. But it's tough to compare the two times, as Perez ran with a temp of 86 degrees. Caldwell had low 70's for his race. Give Perez low 70's, he probably sets the course record.
Excellent race by Jesuit!!! Dominated this meet even without their occasional #1 guy (Cressman).
Definitely a team to watch, especially for the next couple of years
Granada
Dana Hills did another 2-mile (or 3200) time trial
Hunter was the #3 guy here
I altered my program to only use this year's XC speed ratings, and to ignore last years track times completely. This is a collection of the best speed ratings that I could find "per runner", and then rating them in a team score.
Note that I did not try and figure out anything beyond that. I don't know if Westin Brown is running again this year, but he still gets credit for his best time. I don't know if Carsten Williams if going to run this year, but he hasn't yet so he doesn't get a time.
Finally, as has been mentioned before, going solely by speed ratings causes a bias away from NorCal teams, and San Diego teams to a lesser extent because they have fewer races that are speed rated. Still, outside of Oakdale, the best teams have been running many of the races that are speed rated.

westin has a stress fracture hes not coming back this season.
If W Brown is out for the season, Dana Hills and San Clemente can beat Great Oak, and maybe Ventura and Oakdale are capable of doing it too.
Great Oak already beat San Clemente and Ventura at Mt Sac without Westin. How do you figure?
Ventura rested their top guys.
San Clemente I'll give you that. They ran their full roster and lost. One of their scorers at Mt Sac bombed the last mile and dropped 44 spots and they didn't have a good enough 6th to fill in.
San Clemente at peak strength I think takes it over GO, but GO clearly has the depth to be consistent even if 1-2 runners place badly.
Is that the real reason why the old coach left the program? Over one runner? When he could've stayed on for the boy's forthcoming, potential epic year? I too, heard about Sadie taking on a private coach. Being Matt Hammell. Which I am surprised, if true, as I know that he's said in the past that he would never intentionally interfere with a school's program. It's hard to believe, though, that many parents and kids don't like him. He was the head coach for the Ventura Tigres track program for many years. He ran a fantastic program that was frankly, the best organization in the entire conference. He had no negative issues with parents and most of the kids respected and loved that guy and his team of coaches.
I think this is the same type of negativity being projected onto this individual, similar to what others, on different threads, are trying to project onto the first year Newbury Park coach. I agree that whether he or anyone else is distracting the runners away from the high school coach's program is wrong and shouldn't be tolerated by coach Spiker. But defaming the guy is also wrong. If true, Coach Spiker needs to put his foot down. I know that it is easier said than done, especially when they are your top runners. But he is the coach and Sadie is a Ventura High School runner. Other sports wouldn't put up with it. I know that Brosnan ran a tight ship, in terms of adhering to the team's plan. Having said all of this, I also heard that Fasthorse is getting private coaching. Does anyone know if this is true, or just rumor?

this whole private coaching phenomena is pretty depressing. I really didn't like my high school coach, actually I hated him. But he put the energy to build our program, he was the one who took the time to make our team good. He was the one who was there for my teammates. It would be outright disrespectful for me to use a private coach.
