Kimmel is a state champion in the making. I think there is a very good chance he wins the Regional and even is 2nd place at state. At the District meet, it was almost shocking how hard he started the race and took a giant lead right from the gun. But it clearly worked out for him in the end.
The last freshman phenom in Ohio that I can remember is probably Dustin Horter. He had a great high school career and a decent freshman campaign at Indiana but he faded quickly and really never did anything since. He’s been surpassed by most of his peers from the talented 2017 graduating class. Let’s hope Kimmel develops a bit better for longevity and doesn’t have the same fate.
And.... Sam Richuitti was 9th as a frosh two years ago. Pretty solid considering he bounced back and forth between soccer and XC all fall. We'll see if Kimmel can top that performance.

Yeah, I’m aware of Ackley & Richuitti. I’m betting that Kimmel will be top 5.
When I said freshman phenom I was probably more referring to track. I’m pretty sure that Horter was 4th in the 3200 his freshman year. Earlier I said that he was the class of 2017. He was actually the class of 2018. That class had a ton of talent not only in Ohio but nationwide.
If we don’t get any more rain this week I’m expecting some good performances with the cooler weather. The rain helped bring it those temps and softened the ground up just a bit. I know that hard and dry ground helps with fast times and all of that but the ground was almost too hard. Last weekend for districts it was also too warm.

Is Kimmel is sub 9:15 or sub 4:14 shape?
Ackley (4:09/9:05), Tommy Rice (9:05), Richuitti (9:07), Rudraraju (9:09), Gabelman (4:12/9:22), Allwien (4:12), Copley (4:18/9:16), Shaughnessy (4:14/9:18), Dyer (4:13), McGraw (4:12), Trapp (4:15/9:19), and a slew of 4:18/9:20 types - Miller, Smith, Lanoy(s), Schachleiter, Day, Ntwali, Cope, Zuckett, Young, Howell, and on and on and on.
Top five won't be easy. We'll see. He's been tough so far.
Pick North deserves to move up a lot after they demolished Davidson at districts. Pick North has a solid team and they can be pretty strong at states, but I guess we will see at regionals how things shake out.

I agree.
I also did not think Mas. Jackson nor Lancaster looked very strong last week. And I would have thought Loveland ran well enough to be in the top 10.
The podium battle is very fuzzy right now. I would not be surprised at all if Mas. Jackson, Lancaster, Dub. Coffman, St. Xavier, Tol. St. Francis, Springboro, Pick. North, or Hil. Davidson (they were missing their #2 last week) ended up with a trophy at State this year.
Usually there are 3-4 teams, at the most, with a realistic shot at the podium for the D1 boys. This year it's more like 9. State will be very exciting.
Davidson did beat Coffman at OCC, but Davidson ran their full varsity, and Coffman didn't run thier 4th or 6th, so their 5th person to score was their 7th runner. In a showdown between them I would favor Coffman, but we will just have to wait until Saturday.
I never heard of the Hoka Postal Nationals and was confused by your post so I thought I would give it some context. This explains it...
"Between the 1960s and the late 1980s, U.S. high school teams would run a 2-Mile on the track towards the end of cross country season. This included regional meets with numerous teams, local dual meets or just teams time trialing at their fittest. Schools would cumulate their top 5 fastest times from those competitions and “post” them via mail to Track and Field News. The magazine would compile the results and rank the top teams in the nation each year.
The HOKA Postal Nationals are bringing that tradition back with a series of affiliated events comprising races of 2-miles (or 3200m) on the track. Between August 23rd and October 31st high school-aged teams will form clubs to compete in a local event with multiple teams or as an intrasquad event against teammates. Clubs will add up their top five times and “post” them via the Postal Nationals website and compare their team with the best in the nation."

Davidson didn’t run their full varsity, Boyd didn’t run who was with Shaunhessy at the beginning of the year
When is SW Ohio going to quit using Troy for the regional meets. It’s a good place to watch but a horrible course to run.
The regional meet should be at Cedarville. Use the Clark County Fairgrounds or Indian Riffle Park in Kettering as the other District course along with VOA. It’s time to retire Troy.
What is the Troy course like? Never been there..I feel the same with Boardman..the course at Boardman is not necessarily the issue, but rather having 24 teams + individual qualifiers, on a very narrow and tight turn course (luckily this year there is no rain or mud in the forecast) is the issue. I think if there were 16-18 teams at Boardman Regionals it would be a lot better as it is very spectator friendly and the course is not super fast (I think with its rolling hills, tight turns and narrowness) allows for a tactically sound race and is not fast, but as mentioned its just way too chaotic for a 24 Team regional Meet. (Tiffin has 7 teams and is a course that hosts a meet with more teams than the Boardman region)

No disrespect to Brody, but Liam is in a different league...
Liam was 5th last year at state. Brody was 53rd.
Liam was 18th at NXR Midwest. Brody was 99th.
Brody: 4:32/9:37/15:46
Liam: 4:18/9:18/15:08
And... Brody reportedly was out due to ankle issues/injury.

The first few miles of Troy are along the flood plain next to the Great Miami River. It is flat but is often windy. It is very boring going around in a big loop a few times. Spectators can stand up on the levee and get a good overview of the race but it is just about the most unimaginative course ever. After mile 2 it goes up and over the levee and is a bit better if a course. The racing is closer to the spectators and gets a lot louder for the runners. It just is not a great course. The spectators probably like it more than the runners but it should be about the runners. It does have a nice setup for tailgating fans.
Boardman is sort of legendary, no? The slowest times are usually out of that region because of the course. If it moved from Boardman where would it go? Would Malone be good? Walsh has a course across the street, right? What about Silver Creek Metro in Akron? The NCAA regionals are supposedly going to be there next year.
