I think we underestimate how easy it would be to silence freedom of the press. They have already silenced themselves during Trumps reign. Mean tweets and being on the receiving end of being accused of biased have caused many to be full time “both sides” normalizers.
We are seeing first hand how it is not necessary to jail journalists to get them to stop reporting on Trump corruption. But if Trump decided to jail just one or two on some fake charge that would be all it takes to silence most.
I'm light years from any kind of authority on this, OF COURSE, but part of my reason for saying that is that I've often been surprised and VERY impressed with how long brave journalists have "survived" (both literally and figuratively) in countries where you'd have thought that such activity would have been long, long gone.
Significant degradation on our doorstep? Perhaps. But elimination or near-elimination? Not very soon, I don't think. And I ain't no optimist.
Elimination is not needed here. There is already no appetite or respect for real journalism. That stuff is simply not profitable and gets dwarfed by 24/7 opinion machines and social media influencing.
Dude the press has voluntarily given up their freedom lol. They are not in it for the honest journalism and fact sharing. They have not put up a serious fight for truth because it's not where the money is.
I am curious if others feel that the press has given up on the idea of objectivity. Ideally, the press should seek the truth and report facts. It seems more and more that the press has gotten rid of its objectivity and has become a voice box for their advertisers, only reporting those things that support their political slant and labeling data that doesn’t agree with such slant as misinformation using their “fact” checkers (which typically are editorials written by those whose politics align with the press entity).
Facts are boring to most mouth breathers who are addicted to micro doses of BS they find more entertaining. Most also are unable draw a practical connection between politics and their own lives. They just don't care enough.
The bigger problem I see is the short attention span and lack of urgency from the public. Hidden in plain sight in the massive MSM spin and opinion machine and social media is the fact that Trump is a corrupt actor who doesn't give a fk about anyone else. This simple fact has reached most voters, but they are distracted 24/7.

Your nose breathing existence has you commenting on politics like nothing else matters, or as if an audience cares what you think.

Well here you are, an esteemed member of my audience.
Those are interesting hypotheticals that you have made up.
But in reality the right wing reserves the phrase DEI hire for blacks and maybe hispanics. Although I have only heard them use it on black people in positions of management or goverenmentthat they don't like.
If you can give us some examples where right wingers called non black people DEI hires it might cause me to adjust my viewpoint.
Maybe it's because "DEI" almost exclusively means black and very occasionally Hispanic?
Treat every straight white / Asian male like a black lesbian when they apply to jobs.
JD Vance praised by Russia's Foreign Minister Lavrov:
“He stands for peace, for cessation of aid [to Ukraine]. We can only welcome this because, in fact, it is necessary to stop pumping Ukraine with weapons, and the war will end."
( If you stop giving the country we have illegally invaded weapons it will be much easier for us. of course we could just get the hell out of Ukraine but my boss doesn’t want to)
"Mark Cuban is saying a lot of tech/crypto guys support Trump because his inflationary policies and destabilizing effect on the dollar's status as a reserve currency will drive up the price of Bitcoin and make them richer."
Nice, GOP! Destroy the dollar and the economy to make BTC go higher!
Don’t forget about the kleptomaniac that was the nuclear waste expert. Here is an excerpt from the testimony on the FBI DEI issues (which are likely similar to issues facing the Secret Service trying to implement the same policies, just replace FBI with SS):
"The law enforcement and intelligence capabilities of the FBI are degrading because the FBI is no longer hiring 'the best and brightest' candidates to fill the position of Special Agent of the FBI. An increasing number of lower quality candidates—described by one source as 'bread crumbs' because they were rejected by other federal law enforcement agencies—are applying to become FBI Special Agents; and the FBI is selecting those candidates to become FBI Special Agents because they satisfy the FBI's priority to meet Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) mandates. . . . The FBI's Special Agent hiring numbers are down, likely due to the decline in the Nation's trust in the FBI and a corresponding decrease in the number of individuals interested in applying to the FBI for employment. To more easily accommodate a larger pool of available applicants, FBI Special Agent hiring standards have been relaxed and requirements measurably lowered in categories that include physical fitness, illicit drug use, financial irregularities, mental health, full-time work experience, and integrity.“
You forgot to tell the message board that those are the words of Gym Jordan. I don't blame you for that omission if you were trying to legitimize the argument.
It's kinda funny that so many Trumpers are basically advertising their ignorance of at least the last few decades when they pretend that affirmative action (now calling it DEI) is something that just came along with the Biden administration.
And going a bit deeper, pretend that in order to push back against affirmative action (I happen to be largely anti-affirmative action), one necessarily needs to elect a f***** dictator.
at the Helsinki summit in front of the whole world,
Donald Trump sided with Vladimir Putin over the U.S. intelligence community that he was in charge of.
That's because he's a conservative. And the current Rs were and are ALL OK with it because siding with a Russian autocrat over U.S. intelligence is a very conservative thing to do. Ditto explicitly mocking POWs.
Those Trumpers are all VERY conservative. Unshakeably so. Just ask them.
(Note: Having a flag symbol of any kind on your vehicle exempts you from actually demonstrating or endorsing any conservative ideals whatsoever)

No, crypto guys support Trump because the Biden admin wants to ban crypto and is de-bank crypto startups. It's pretty straightforward actually, there's no galaxy brain conspiracy here.

So, you formed your accurate views of Trump and Trumpism just from first hand experience? Journalism didn't help with that at all? Come on.
It's only the Ds that are in charge of the deep state.
It is interesting the extent to which belief in the Deep State advertises the R's apparent inability to organize. Somehow, over decades, the evil Ds inserted active and sleeper cells throughout government, but the Rs failed to do that. Just completely owned, I guess. Weird.
And in the "Oldie but Goodie" category, we must never forget the INCREDIBLY radical leftist UTTERLY dominant Deep Staters in mamby pamby organizations like the FBI, DEA, CIA, DoD, etc. As El Runkin might say (with more flair and strangeness), it's all long hair, incense, and bongo playing in those places....obviously.
