“ I know a lot of people are panicking after the debate (which Trump and m@ga are eating up by the way), but here are some quick takeaways:
- Biden didn’t have a great debate. It would be disingenuous to pretend otherwise.
- Trump did come across as energetic and mostly coherent by Trump standards, but he also came
across as the narcissist azzhole that he is, his lies will easily be fact checked, and his unhinged BS will not suddenly stop (there never is a new tone).
- That said, a President’s job is not to debate. Would it have been great if Biden could have quickly fact checked Trump in real time? Sure. But that’s not what makes a great President. A great President needs to be measured, analyze problems thoughtfully, and work with their teams to decide on the best course of action. That’s Biden’s track record, and he will go down in history as one of the most successful and effective leaders of the modern era.
- People have very short memories. The angst people are feeling right now will be replaced with whatever new shiny object comes tomorrow.
- There is a LOT of time between now and the election. A non-comprehensive list of what lies ahead:
> SCOTUS will rule on immunity.
> Independence Day celebrations.
> Trump will be sentenced.
> New trials might proceed.
> The conventions will take place.
> Labor Day will begin the time when more people really pay attention.
> Rallies will be held.
> More political ads will air this cycle than any election ever and will focus on issues that actually matter to people, most of which are existential issues:
+ Do I want a democracy or a dictatorship?
+ Do I want a secular nation or a Christian theocracy?
+ Do I want a President who will stand on the side of women’s rights or someone who doesn’t care if a 10-year-old gets raped by her father or a woman bleeds out in a hospital parking lot because doctors don’t want to get sued?
+ Do I want someone who will look out for the average American or the privileged elite?
+ Do I want a President who will look out for all Americans or someone who will round up those who aren’t white Christians and put them in camps?
+ Do I want a leader who knows that love is love?
+ Do I want a decent honorable person who sincerely tries to help all Americans, or a selfish, con-artist felon whose entire existence has been a scam and whose every action centers on what’s good for HIM?
At the end of the day, this is a binary choice. Nobody has to be excited about Joe Biden, but I hope enough people realize that he stood up for all of us to ensure the existential threat Trump posed to this country was ended, and he deserves the opportunity to finish the job he started. I believe he didn’t want to run, but he did it because he believed he was the only person who could beat Trump, and I believe he was right. I think that’s why he’s running now as well. Is he right now? That’s up to us!
At the end of the day, I stand with Joe because he stands with us. If HE decides to step aside, then I will support whoever is nominated to take on Trump. But not being a quick debater is not the measure of a great leader or a great President. I hope people really think about that when it comes time to vote, because make no mistake, if Trump is elected President, that will be the last time you will participate in a free and fair election in America.”
