Word is one of the women will be replaced for the US team, based on times it will be Little. 49.4 Brown vs. 49.5 Little. Gabby or SML most likely
Little's split was faster than Brown's. I would be extremely surprised if SML runs this. Not prestigious enough and what would be the point? Replace Norwood by Norman. He needs the practice. Norwood needs a rest.
My bet.. it’ll be SML on the mixed relay. They just named her a captain of the USA track team and this would give her another gold. People want to watch her run.
People want to watch her run the 400H and the proper women 4x4. Not a 2nd rate event.

I hope not. Keep her for the regular 4x4.
Agreed. I don't see the point to having her run this event. Give the spot to less mortals.
Can Cole Hocker find similar success? Footlocker champion. NCAA Champion. Switches locations from OR to VA. Believes in himself.
As someone who's a nerd for running history stuff like this I would love it. One of the main reasons I love Footlocker over NXN is all that history and great racing tradition, so it's so cool to see that Cole and Grant have kept up the tradition. It was also a cool footnote that this race was the first time an NXN and Footlocker champ have lined up at the Olympics, even better that both Nico and Grant ran great!
10,000 was just a fantastic race. I was able to watch without commercials. The event has a poor reputation but it really was a brilliant event from start to finish. What a day for Fisher and US distance.
Also so many replays and slo-mos of the final on the Peacock feed. This is how it should be every time!
The coverage was unbelievable, hats off! I was watching with my 89 year old Dad (golf and stock car racing fan) and said "Uggh, there will probably be a lot of commercials but the last 5 laps will be pretty good!" Then of course they take off hammering from the gun, completely epic race, AMAZINGLY show the entire race, Olympic record, great races by everyone involved in that top 10, Grant medals, Nico runs out of his mind, great slo-mo replays of Grant's stumble, the finish, etc. I don't know how you top that race plus the amazing coverage; fantastic stuff. My Dad was riveted from start to finish and I know if HE liked it, this was about the best imaginable advertisement for how exciting distance races can be if they're raced hard. +1000000000 on that one!
Cheptegei followed Mo Farah’s rule # 1. Be leading at the start of the last lap. Let the runners behind wear themselves out by sprinting from 300 to 200 meters to go.
Great race. You break the Olympic record and you place 13th.
And lastly the E’s ran with huge balls. They made this great race.
Yes indeed, all hail the Ethiopians for this one. That was some hard running.
I have noticeed that looking cooked seems to be Nico Youngs baseline normal (as we say in nursing) but that is one tough and talented young runner.
Yeah, no kidding, I thought he was done at 5K. Must just be his style, because he was hanging with the world's best all the way.
He really seems like a seriously tough mentality; he sure seems to have what it takes to compete with the best as he develops. Big day out for him; that was really fun to watch.
That 10000 was incredible. And not a single commercial on Peacock. I gotta give them props for that.
Fisher, Young, Ahmed, all three Ethiopians and of course Cheptegi. What a race! I was going crazy.
It was a really satisfying result. Grant ran a perfect race. Got his position and didn't take a step wrong. Cheptegei showed again why he is the master. Didn't panic early, bided his time and made the decisive move when he needed it. The Aregawi medal drought was as much a thing as Fisher and there was some symmetry seeing them both end it in the same race.
I felt bad for Ahmed, but boy his stride is disruptive to everyone. It was a subplot watching how many people reacted to him clipping them both from behind and in front.
It's interesting how much tactics matter, I had money on Kiplimo and he spent way too much running wide as Gressier would not make way. He then got stuck in the back at 800m to go and on and had to go all out to get to medal territory with 200 to go. Fisher and Ahmed much more efficient. Aregawi ran very intelligently (surprisingly!) but got horribly boxed after holding the lead the last few laps and doing a good job burning off quite a few guys for the last 200m. Yomif rough again on managing his energy. No extra gear the last 300. Kibet I think is close to Grant/Mo in fitness, but he always leaves himself a lot to do the last 200. Nice kick but that's not going to get a medal unless you have a ridiculous burst like Aregawi.

My parents texted me after the race and they were hyped. They said it sounded loud on TV. The atmosphere was great, the race was great, just a fantastic day for the sport.
He always looks like that. 21 years old and sub 27 two time a few months. In four years he may medal.
I was in Portland when Nico stormed off and won Nike Cross Country. Every time he went by me he looked like he was gonna die. That's the "X" factor that makes a good runner great.
