Not saying anything in particular about this case. And not taking a political position. But the idea of governors or presidents pardoning people has never made any sense to me. Isn't it the job of judges/courts/juries to consider the evidence and render a verdict? How does it make sense for a governor or president to simply overrule the justice system?
Among many other issues, such a system pretty much guarantees corruption - buying pardons, pardoning friends and political allies . . . Who the heck came up with such a system?
Hunter's in big trouble.
His trial starts on June 3rd. He's going to be found guilty and Sleepy Joe will pardon him as quickly as possible. Just wait.
Nobody will vote for Hunter. Joe won’t pardon him.
The Biden White House is proclaiming a new prerogative for presidents: They may suppress any evidence of their unfitness for office. The battle over five hou...

You have said a lot of dumb things over the years, and this ranks high.
An upside-down American flag – a symbol used by some supporters of former President Donald Trump who challenged the legitimacy Joe Biden’s 2020 victory – hung outside the home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito after the e...
imagine if a black scotus justice had a BLM sign on her lawn. Can you imagine the fox freakout?
Imagine being more upset about a story about a flag that probably isn't even true than you are about your fellow Democrat trying to execute members of SCOTUS...

Either way, this whole idea of governors/presidents having the power to pardon - thereby overturning the work of the justice system - is a very bad idea.
They say Trump risks lowering the floor for Biden to the point that a decent performance, not a superlative one, will help the president. And they say it’s familiar frustration to them, as Trump also lowered expectations for Biden ahead of the first debate in 2020 — a move that backfired spectacularly.
“It makes no sense,” one Senate Republican said on the condition of anonymity. “It was a catastrophe [in 2020], and I think he’s teeing himself up for the same thing.”

Agree. And completely don't understand it. Even pre-Trump.

But WITH Trump? Incredibly stupid.
the writers of the Constitution saw Trump coming, volume 6,458:
At the Virginia Ratifying Convention, the delegate George Mason argued against ratification (of Constitional pardoning power) partly on the grounds that "the President ought not to have the power of pardoning, because he may frequently pardon crimes which were advised by himself."[15]

Oh, and I momentarily forgot, it's even worse:
1) Presidents can pardon whomever they damn well choose.
2) Presidents can't be punished by the legal system while they're in office (because a MEMO says so, apparently).
3) And last but CERTAINLY not least, the esteemed SUPREME Court is currently struggling with the incredibly hard question: Should they be able to do ANYTHING THEY WANT, FOR LIFE ?????
I really HOPE that Third World countries are laughing at us over that (....and yeah, so many other things, these days).
America. It might be beautiful in lots of place. But it ain't "great."

Not the ones who prevailed on that issue, quite clearly.
Trump suggests millions of people are leaving New York because of his criminal and civil trials
I could see people with money fleeing NY after the civil fraud trial. The unprecedented nature of the government suing an entity for a victimless crime where the supposed wronged entity says there was no crime and would reengage in commerce with the entity sets a dangerous standard.
