The upside is she knows now. I'm sure she recognizes that she has to run the final differently, and that pacing it in the 4:09/10 range will leave her vulnerable. Realistically letting it come down a kick in the final 200m was never going to be the best option.
Last year NCSt (without Chmiel) had one other 1st Team AA other than Tuohy, Hays getting 5th in the 10000m. Starliper, Bush and Steelman finished 9, 10, and 11 in the 5000m, and neither NCst runner advanced to the finals in the `1500. Chmiel seems like she is dealing with injuries, so another 1st Team AA was well done. You can argue that Hays had a disappointing race, but Hays finished 9th at regionals and 12th here, so it was consistent. Athletes get worn down this time of year.
