There was zero enforcement of the mandatory masks requirement in Cambridge and Somerville today. I’d say 90% of people were wearing masks on the street and in stores. I did a track workout in a public park and about 75% were wearing masks. Whole families with kids riding bikes on the friggin track and not wearing masks or giving a flying fucx. I made horizontal slits in my mask so its kinda like gills which keeps any spit from flying but makes it easier to breathe. It would be useless if I was standing next to a Covid infected person but it looks the part since the slits are barely visible under the folds.

Well, I live in Cambridge and received the public notice that said they won't enforce it for a week. Even though it's "enacted" it won't come into full effect until next Wednesday.

chiropractic or physical therapy treatments yet deems a liquor store essential

– it’s not about your health.

When the State lets you go to the grocery store or hardware store but is

demanding mail-in voting – it’s not about your health.

WAKE UP PEOPLE… If you think any of this BS is about your health, you’re

a fool!! Please open your eyes & stop being lead like blind sheep.

Town-by-town case case results updated today.

Below the state average, despite high population density, tons of bike paths and popular running routes, and lots of bikes and runners, were Cambridge and Somerville.

Lots of surrounding suburban towns, even Lexington, had much higher case rates. And highest of all, by far: Chelsea, with 0 running paths and very few runners.

Pretty clear that case rates are closely correlated with income. Low income = high case rates, lots of essential workers, people who have to ride the bus, people who live in cramped housing shared with lots of other people. Middle income = average case rates, some essential workers (nurses, first responders, construction workers). Upper income = low case rates, work from home, more likely to run. Zero evidence that transmission is happening from briefly passing by strangers in the street.

Now Boston mayor Marty Walsh is getting in on the action, giving all the evil runners and bikers a dressing down.

Apparently at least one person in Cambridge decided to take matters into his own hands in cracking down on runners...

There was a pissed off old woman on the Charles (Cambridge side) this morning that was flipping-off anyone without a mask. If she is that concerned about her health she shouldn't be in a dense-exercise area. These people are idiots (and probably also Democrats...).

I'd say 50/50 people with/without masks, ballpark, from my non-specific counting.

Three things:

1. Having a mask on doesn't help *you* at all, but it reduces the spread *from* you by about 80%; that sounds like a lot, but the difference in danger from having a face-to-face conversation indoors to having one outdoors is (much) bigger than that. (I'd still advise against this outdoors at less than 6 ft apart; indoors I'd honestly want a lot more room like 30 ft). There is pretty overwhelming evidence about this, both from this virus and from past pandemics and cold / flu spread; being outside helps extraordinarily. This is literally the primary reason there is a flu season every winter and it mostly goes away every summer. In the 1918 flu, the most effective method they had, by far, for keeping healthcare workers safe was to open every damn window in the hospitals. And that doesn't even get into the antiseptic properties of direct sunlight!

2. The government has absolutely no ability to actually enforce collective stay at home orders, and they're being ignored by at least 15% of the population, at a minimum, *everywhere*. Closing pretty much anywhere outdoors is directly counterproductive to stopping the spread; you want these people who are breaking the rules to meet up outside instead of inside (their own homes) as much as possible.

Yes and Yes. Also a lot of people have essential jobs; they get infected. And grocery stores are indoors.... again, your standard non-n95 mask only reduces viral spread by about 80%. (That's not that much).

I understand the importance of wearing a mask even while running. I don't like it, but of course I will do it. People need to stop acting high and mighty and shitting on people for complaining about it. At a time when we all feel trapped and running has been our only outlet, limiting that very outlet can be frustrating even when you know it is correct, and it is okay to complain. Natural, even.

Additionally, on my runs I have noticed a ~larger~ problem of people walking 3 wide on sidewalks bike paths. Mark or no mask, runner or walker, social distancing is significantly more difficult when people take up an entire path.

People are complaining about runners not wearing masks while forcing those same runners, who are out there by themselves, into close quarters walking in groups and not moving to the side when someone is passing from either direction. Runners should be waring masks, walkers should not walk in crowded areas in groups more than 2. Everyone needs to do their part and stop acting like everyone else is the problem.

just use an old race bib and write Black Lives Matter on it, you are a protestor and can go without a mask then !
