This seems like Championship road races where a non elite runner runs his butt off and has a faster chip time than first elite runner’s gun time. However, the champion is declared by gun time not chip. In this indoor championship there were two races, one declared the fast heat “A” and the slow heat “B” heat. USATF should have the declared the “A” heat as the championship heat so they had a chance to race against the competition rather than just declaring the fastest time across the two heats, which seems insane. I blame the rules committee! This was insane, but good for Drew. He ran a great time and was giving the championship. It is not his fault the rules worked in his favor. All he could do is run a fast race.
